Brett Gaynor matched his season best seven strikeouts across seven innings in Menomonie on Saturday

MENOMONIE, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh baseball won games three and four of its series with UW-Stout at Nelson Field in Menomonie on Saturday (May 3). They won the first game 16-11 and the second 17-3 in seven innings to finish the regular season with eight straight wins.

The Titans (29-11, 20-8 WIAC) scored 33 runs on 38 hits and 12 walks across the victories. Receiving votes from D3baseball.com and ranked 27th by the American Baseball Coaches Association this week, they reached 20 conference victories, the most under head coach Kevin Tomasiewicz, for the first time since going 20-4 and winning the regular season title in 2007.

Josh Jansen (DeForest/DeForest) made his team-best seventh start of the season in the third game of the series, going 5.2 innings with six strikeouts including three in the third inning. He allowed eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits, seven walks, and a hit batter before moving to 7-2 on the year with the win. Cooper Kamlay (Franklin/Franklin) relieved him in the sixth inning and pitched 1.1 frames with two strikeouts on four hits for three runs. Ryan Richter (Waukesha/Waukesha West) threw the final two innings and held the Blue Devils scoreless on one hit and a walk with two strikeouts.

As a team, the Titans recorded six doubles, a triple, a home run, and 11 stolen bases in the first contest of the day. The 11 stolen bases are a program record and the second-most in a game in WIAC history. Five scored at least two runs and two RBIs and all nine position players reached first base safely at least once.

Owen Housinger (Hawthorn Woods, Ill./Stevenson) went perfect at the plate in Saturday's first game, hitting 5-for-5 with two doubles, two runs, and three stolen bases. Jack McNamara (La Grange, Ill./Lyons) led Oshkosh with five runs and Zach Taylor (Long Grove, Ill./Stevenson) tallied a team best four RBIs.

UW-Oshkosh put runners on second and third with one out in the top of the first inning before scoring both runs on a Taylor single to center field. UW-Stout got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with an unearned run on a passed ball.

McNamara led off the second inning with a walk, advancing around the bases in the following two plate appearances and reaching home when Jake Surane (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) singled up the middle of the infield. Surane then scored on Taylor's double to right center to put Oshkosh up, 4-1.

A Logan Schill (Pewaukee/Pewaukee) triple sent McNamara and Housinger home in the third inning and he scored the Titans' seventh run when Nick Shiu (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township) singled through the right side.

After another run for the Blue Devils in the third inning, Oshkosh added another four runs on four hits in the fifth. Mason Kirchberg (DeForest/DeForest) led off the inning with a solo shot to center field. McNamara reached on a single in the next at-bat and stole second before Schill hit a single to sent him across the plate. Schill stole second and scored when Shiu singled to center field. Shiu then stole second, advanced to third then scored back-to-back groundouts by Surane and Taylor.

In the top of the sixth inning, McNamara and Schill drew consecutive walks before scoring on Surane's single to center field.

Two Blue Devils crossed the plate in the eighth inning with an RBI single and an RBI fielder's choice.

Kirchberg reached first base on an error as the Titans' leadoff batter in the ninth inning and swiped Oshkosh's 11th bag of the game before the next three batters went down in order.

Richter issued a walk to the first Blue Devil he faced in the last half inning but struck out the next and induced a pair of flyouts to secure the win for Oshkosh.

The Titans started Brett Gaynor (Long Grove, Ill./Stevenson) on the mound in the series finale. He improved to an 8-3 record with the complete game win. Across seven innings, he struck out seven batters including two in the fifth against three runs on six hits and a walk.
