Titans Tabbed For WBCA Academic Top-25 Honor Roll

The top-25 finish is the sixth in program history and the third under head coach Brad Fischer

ATLANTA- For the third time under head coach Brad Fischer, UW-Oshkosh women's basketball was named to the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top-25 Honor Roll on Tuesday (July 22).

The Titans placed 14th among NCAA Division III programs with a cumulative team GPA of 3.760, the highest placement for the program since finishing fifth in 2003. UW-Oshkosh previously earned top-25 spots on the WBCA's honor roll in 2014 (23rd) and 2018 (24th) under Fischer. Before Fischer took the reins for the 2012-13 season, the Titans placed seventh in 2001, third in 2002, and fifth in 2003.

The Academic Top 25 annually recognizes women's basketball teams across the nation that carry the highest combined GPA inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2024-25 season is the 30th in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.

"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew.  "The 119 teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"

Colorado College compiled a 3.864 team GPA to take the top position in the WBCA Academic Top-25 Honor Roll. Fellow WIAC programs UW-Stevens Point (fourth) and UW-Stout (19th) were named to the academic top-25.

On the court, UW-Oshkosh posted an overall record of 27-5 with an 11-3 mark in WIAC play. The Titans won their second straight and 16th WIAC regular season championship in program history before advancing to the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Championship for the first time since 1996. The Titans won the Oshkosh Regional with victories over Calvin University (Mich.) and Bethel University (Minn.) before taking the Bloomington, Illinois Sectional trophy by defeating host Illinois Wesleyan University and Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio). Oshkosh faced Smith College (Mass.) in the Final Four. The 20-win season is the 12th under Fischer and every full-length season since 2012-13 has seen UW-Oshkosh collect at least 20 wins. He is one of just two head coaches in conference history to accomplish the feat, joining former UW-Platteville men's basketball head coach Bo Ryan, who led the Pioneers to at least 20 wins every season from 1988-99.

Fischer was named the WIAC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career earlier this year and was tabbed for D3hoops.com Coach of the Region for the third time before collecting Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division III Public Coach of the Year honors for the third time. He mentored Kayce Vaile (Greendale/Greendale) and Sammi Beyer (Appleton/Appleton East) to All-WIAC First Team mentions and Paige Seckar (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) the WIAC Kwik Trip Newcomer of the Year award. Vaile earned further honors in D3hoops.com All-Region Second Team and All-America Fourth Team and Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America Honorable Mention. Seckar was tabbed as the D3hoops.com Region Co-Rookie of the Year. Kate Huml (Janesville/Janesville Craig), Avery Poole (Cottage Grove/Monona Grove), Alex Rondorf (West Bend/West Bend West), and Vaile were named to the College Sports Communicators Women's Basketball Academic All-District® Team.

The Titans committed just 10.6 turnovers per game, the fewest in NCAA Division III and ranked 13th with 49.7 points allowed per game. They held additional WIAC bests in scoring margin (+14.4), field goal percentage defense (35.7), three-point percentage (33.6), three-point percentage defense (26.3), blocks per game (4.0), bench points per game (24.8), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.06), fouls committed per game (13.0), and winning percentage (84.4).
