WHITEWATER, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's tennis finished its two-day trip to Whitewater on Saturday (August 30), competing in the annual UW-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational.
UW-Oshkosh tied Augustana College (Ill.) for seventh place with 17 team points. Grinnell College (Iowa) won the team title with 40 points.
Doubles partners
Olivia Pethan (Oshkosh/Fox Valley Lutheran) and
Courtney Carpenter (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) secured a fifth-place finish in the No. 2 flight. They were defeated by UW-La Crosse's Maia Samuelson and Hannah Cady in the first round before beating Marie Weis and Jordan Miller from Carthage College, 6-3, in the consolation bracket and Kassidy Anderson and Maddy Harned from Augustana, 6-1, in the fifth-place match.
Jameson Gregory (Delavan/Big Foot) and
Sarah Schaeffer (Rock Springs/Reedsburg) bested another Carthage duo, Sabrina Skudrnova and Valentina Huesca, in the first round of the third flight, however an injury in the semifinal round relegated them to fourth place.
At No. 1 doubles,
Kayla Gibbs (Muskego/Muskego) and
Mana Usui (Franklin/Franklin) won their second match over Carthage's Greta Peterson and Niki Manojlovic, 6-3, before taking sixth place.
In singles action,
Cate Gerl (Joliet, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) was the only Titan to win a match. Playing in the second flight, she won over Augustana's Maitreyi Shrikhande, 8-6, in the consolation bracket and eventually placed sixth.
The Titans will travel to Appleton on Tuesday (September 2) to face Lawrence University at the Vikings' home courts at 2 p.m.
