Two Titans Tally Double-Digit Kills In Win Over Pointers

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team took down WIAC foe UW-Stevens Point in a home match at Kolf Sports Center by a score of 3-0 on Friday (Sept. 26) during the Titans' annual Community Night.
 
Samantha Perlberg (Chippewa Falls/Chippewa Falls) recorded 14 kills while hitting .394 and added 10 digs. Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Community) was the second Titan to record double-digit kills as she had 10 while hitting .310 and had eight digs. Callie Panasuk (Oak Creek/Oak Creek) led Oshkosh in digs with 16, while Izzy Coon (Fond du Lac/St. Mary's Springs Academy) was the Titans' assist leader with 19. Lauren Grier (Fond du Lac/Fond du Lac) paced the Titans with 3.5 blocks in the match.
 
UW-Oshkosh (14-2, 2-0 WIAC), ranked third in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, scored 53 points to UW-Stevens Point's (8-7, 1-1 WIAC) 37 on 40 kills, four service aces, and nine team blocks. The Titans combined for 39 assists and dug a total of 60 attacks. Oshkosh hit .298 on 114 total attacks while holding the Pointers to .039 on 128 attacks.
 
In set one, the Pointers jumped out to a 9-5 lead over the Titans with four straight points to break the 5-5 tie. UW-Oshkosh then scored five straight points, including a kill each from Juergens and Perlberg, to give Oshkosh a narrow 10-9 lead. UW-Stevens Point answered with three points of their own which Oshkosh responded by scoring four straight to put the score at 14-12 in favor of the Titans. The two teams then went back and forth and knotted up at 17-17 before Oshkosh scored eight of the last 10 points of the set to give it the 1-0 set lead.
 
Set two opened with UW-Oshkosh jumping out to an early 6-3 lead. The Titans kept their foot on the gas and stretched their lead to 13-6 with runs of three and four points. After two Stevens Point points, Oshkosh added four points with two kills by Maren Motz (Hartland/Arrowhead Union) and one by Juergens to make the score 17-8. The Titans then finished set two by scoring eight of the last 12 points of the set that included three kills by Perlberg, a kill by Juergens, and one off the hand of Grier.
 
UW-Oshkosh opened set three by taking a 9-4 lead where Grier and Perlberg each had three kills over the span. The Pointers then clawed back within two points, the cut the deficit to 10-8. Oshkosh then scored three straight points and Stevens Point answered with three of their own. The teams traded pairs of points to make the score 15-13 in the favor of the Titans. Oshkosh then scored five straight which included a kill from Perlberg and the set then went back and forth. Perlberg sealed the sweep for the Titans with a kill to give them the third set victory, 25-18.
 
The Titans are back in action on Tuesday (September 30) in Kenosha for the Carthage College Triangular where they will face two schools receiving votes in the AVCA poll. UW-Oshkosh will face Carthage College at 3 p.m. and Edgewood University at 5 p.m., both matches will be played at Tarble Arena.
