PALATINE, Ill.- Ryan Hanson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry Community) led UW-Oshkosh men's wrestling's seven top-four finishers at Saturday's (Jan. 24) Harper College (Ill.) Stormin' Norman Open with the top placement in the silver 133-pound bracket.
Hanson won all three of his matches at 133 pounds, opening the day with a 4:34 pin of Triton College's (Ill.) Keygan Jennings. He then defeated Sam Sirkorski from Harper by 15-4 major decision and Vincente Navarro from Henry Ford College (Mich.) by 11-9 decision.
Caidan Ronning (Plano, Ill./Plano) placed third in the silver 157-pound bracket. He won his quarterfinal bout with a 12-10 decision over Larz Hughes from Southwestern Michigan College before falling by 15-0 technical fall in the semifinal round. Ronning then won the third-place match by beating fellow Titan
Jacob Hibbard (Mishicot/Mishicot) by 18-2 technical fall. Hibbard reached the place match by pinning Southeastern Iowa Community College's Moses Wilson in 1:03 and Harper's Mejed Jabri in 3:53.
At 174 pounds in the silver bracket,
Kyle Rasper (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) posted a win by injury default over Peter Greco from Harper before dropping a technical fall decision to NCAA Division I Northern Illinois University's Tyler Schofield in the quarterfinal round and falling by major decision to Tyson Poyer from Harper in the third-place match.
Over to the gold division,
JP Culver (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg Community) placed third at 125 pounds with two full-length wins. He posted a 21-12 major decision against Matt Perez from the University of Chicago (Ill.) in the consolation semifinal and defeated Lucas Burgio from Carthage College by 18-1 technical fall in the third-place match.
Two Titans placed in the top four of the gold division's 285-pound bracket. Before they deferred the third-place match and did not wrestle each other,
Camden Harms (Mahomet, Ill./Mahomet-Seymour) and
Roman Martell (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) both won their quarterfinal matchups by pin fall following first-round byes. Harms took Carthage's Cooper Vincent to the mat in 1:13 and Martell wrapped up his match with a 3:32 pin of Tanner Gormanson from Division II UW-Parkside. Sean Carroll from Northern Illinois beat Harms by 19-4 technical fall in the top half of the semifinal round and fellow Huskie William Cole won by 10-5 decision over Martell in the bottom half of the round.
The Titans head on the road to face Lakeland University Thursday (Jan. 29) for a 6 p.m. dual. Since 1985-86, Oshkosh is 9-7 against the Muskies.
