EAU CLAIRE, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh men's wrestling placed sixth at the 71st WIAC Championship (presented by Culver's) in Eau Claire on Saturday (Feb. 14), scoring 28.5 points and placing three wrestlers in the top six of their respective brackets.

UW-Eau Claire, the host of the meet, won the team title with 157.5 points, followed in second by UW-La Crosse with 153.0.

Ryan Hanson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry Community) earned a 4-2 decision against Ethan Monson from UW-Platteville in his first 133-pound bout before dropping into the fifth-place match with loses by fall and technical fall. He then secured fifth place with a victory by medical forfeit over Monson.

Jacob Ward (Green Bay/Bay Port) opened the 149-pound bracket with a 4-3 win by decision over UW-La Crosse's Kellen Kelly and a 15-11 decision over Finn Bloomquist from UW-Eau Claire. After losing by fall to UW-Whitewater's Dominik Mallinder in the semifinal round, he won by sudden victory over Aidan Baum from UW-La Crosse. Bloomquist defeated Ward in the third-place match by injury.

Ryan Bergman (Watertown/Watertown) was the Titans' third place finisher, taking sixth at 165 pounds. He defeated Brady Brewick from UW-Eau Claire by 14-2 major decision before advancing to the semifinal round with a 19-3 technical fall over Dawson Klefstad from UW-Platteville. UW-Whitewater's Brayden Peet sent Bergman to the consolation half of the bracket with a 12-1 major decision. Following a loss by fall to Warhawk Cal Kirchner, Bergman settled for sixth place with an 8-6 loss to UW-Stevens Point's Dylan Cariveau.

Desmond Walker (Oshkosh/Winneconne) was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team at the conclusion of the meet.

The Titans return to McPhee Physical Education Center for the two-day (Feb. 27-28) NCAA Division III Region VII Championship.
