EAU CLAIRE, Wis.- Ryan Bergman (Watertown/Watertown) led UW-Oshkosh men's wrestling's place winners in the final day of the NCAA Division III Region VII Championship on Saturday (Feb. 28), placing fourth in the 165-pound bracket.
The Titans finished the 16-team regional in 12th place with 30.5 points.
Bergman,
Ryan Hanson (McHenry, Ill./McHenry Community) and
Jacob Ward (Green Bay/Bay Port) all advanced to Saturday's matches with matching records of 2-1 in their respective brackets on Friday (Feb. 27).
Bergman won his first two matches of the day in the consolation half of the 165-pound bracket by 14-1 major decision over Jack Miller from Augustana College (Ill.) and 4-1 sudden victory over Jonathon Harvey from UW-Eau Claire, reaching the third-place match against Dylan Cariveau from UW-Stevens Point. Cariveau held Bergman to two escape points in his 7-2 victory that qualified him for the national championship.
Hanson finished the 133-pound bracket with a 3-2 record. Following his two wins on Friday, he was pinned by Concordia Moorhead's Kie Anderson in the consolation semifinal round before pinning Anastacio Martinez from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2:51 during the seventh-place match.
Ward medically forfeited both of Saturday's matches at 149 pounds, settling for eighth place.
