Titans Blank Roadrunners, Salvage Split To Open Florida Trip

Sarah Hammerton recorded a trio of hits in the Titans' first day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla.- Nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh softball split a pair of games to open its trip to THE Spring Games on Thursday (March 19) in Clermont, Fla.

Oshkosh (7-1), ranked 13th in the NCAA Division III by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, bounced back from its first loss of the season – a 3-2 setback against Springfield College (Mass.) – with a 2-0 victory over Ramapo College (N.J.) behind Kiran Sanford's (Two Rivers/Mishicot) two-hitter.

The Titans, who boast a 0.79 earned run average this season, collected their fourth shutout of the year after ranking third in the country with 19 shutouts in 2025.

Sarah Hammerton (Appleton/Appleton West) accounted for three of Oshkosh's eight hits on the day while Morgan Miller (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) added two.

In the second game of the day, Sanford improved to 4-0 in four collegiate starts, yielding just a pair of singles en route to her second shutout this season. Sanford, who has not allowed a run across 22.2 innings during her freshman campaign, struck out 13 and walked four.

The Titans backed Sanford's spectacular outing with runs in the home half of the second and third innings. With two outs and the bases loaded in the second, Emma Bohn (Rosendale/Laconia) was hit by a pitch to bring home Brianne Lopez (Volo, Ill./Grant Community) with what proved to be the winning run.

Haylie Wittman (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) then drove in an insurance run in the third inning with a two-out single that plated a sliding Miller from second base. Miller ignited the inning with a single up the middle before advancing to second base on an ensuing error by the Roadrunners center fielder.

Sanford did not surrender a hit until a leadoff single off the handle of Gabby Morgan's bat blooped into center field during the top of the fifth inning. Ramapo's only other hit was a sharp liner to right field by pinch-hitter Madison Groschel-Klein with two outs during the seventh frame.

Sanford has now registered back-to-back shutouts, ceding a mere three hits – all singles – while striking out 31 over her past 14 innings pitched.

Hammerton went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk to pace the Titans offense.

Morgan (3-1), the Ramapo starting pitcher, suffered the complete-game loss after giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

Oshkosh's win avenged a 2-1 loss to Ramapo (8-2) at THE Spring Games last year. Like the Titans, the Roadrunners reached an NCAA regional final a year ago.

During Oshkosh's first game of the year in the Sunshine State, Springfield's Amelia DeRosa starred in the pitcher's circle and at the plate, recording the complete-game win and providing the winning hit with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning.

DeRosa (4-2) limited the Titans to two runs (zero earned) on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts, retiring the final 10 batters she faced. She also went 3-for-4 with a double and all three runs batted in for the Pride.

DeRosa's RBI double during the third inning opened the scoring, but Oshkosh reclaimed the lead at 2-1 on Hammerton's ringing two-run double with two outs in the top of the fourth frame.

After a scoreless fifth inning, Springfield (5-3) loaded the bases with no outs in the home half of the sixth inning. Titans relief pitcher Brianna Bougie (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) got a forceout out at the plate and a strikeout to bring up DeRosa, the Pride leadoff hitter, who singled to right field to score two runs for the comeback win.

Bougie (1-1) was charged with the loss after allowing two runs on four hits and a pair of walks with three strikeouts during three innings pitched in relief of starter Grace Nardi (Marquette, Mich./Negaunee), who held Springfield to one run on four hits across the first three frames. Nardi struck out one and walked one.

Miller added a double and a walk for Oshkosh.

Oshkosh plays a pair of Massachusetts programs Friday (March 20) in Clermont as the Titans battle Amherst College at 8 a.m. and Babson College at 10:15 a.m. (CDT).
