MEQUON, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's tennis earned its first win of the spring season with a decisive 7-0 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin at the Falcons' CUW Tennis Courts Saturday (April 11).
Olivia Pethan (Oshkosh/Fox Valley Lutheran) and
Courtney Carpenter (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) held Payton Steward and Taylor Weiner without a point in the No. 1 doubles flight, followed by 6-4 victories for both
Kayla Gibbs (Muskego/Muskego) and
Brianna Owens (Appleton/Kimberly) and
Mana Usui (Franklin/Franklin) and
Taylor Longdin (Slinger/Slinger) in the second and third flights, respectively.
Usui kicked off singles action by defeating Steward by scores of 6-1 and 6-0 in the top singles flight. Pethan finished off Ruth Dolde in the No. 2 flight, 6-0, 6-1, before
Rachael Carroll (Shawano/Shawano Community) bested Samantha Mudra, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 6.
Cate Gerl (Joliet, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) won her No. 5 position with matching scores of 6-3 over Weiner and Owens defeated Katelyn de Guzman, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4.
In the only match of the day to go extra points, Gibbs was victorious over Abigail Haley in the No. 3 singles flight. She bounced back from a 6-0 set one loss with a 7-6 win in the second set and a 10-5 win in the tiebreaking third set.
The Titans continue their spring tour on Sunday, April 19 as they travel to Madison to face Edgewood University at Madison West High School at 3 p.m.
