FOND DU LAC, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's flag football won the first game in program history on Thursday (April 9) with a 19-15 win over Rockford University (Ill.) during the second triangular of the year at Marian University. The Titans also faced the host Sabres, falling 27-14 in the nightcap.

Oshkosh (1-5) held fourth quarter leads in both games, scoring a late touchdown to retain the lead against Rockford (3-4) but giving up 20 unanswered points to Marian (5-3).

Paige Vitek (Raymond/Union Grove) was all over the field on Thursday, pulling a total of 24 flags, including a team season high of 15 against the Sabres. She was followed by
Ashlyn Clemens (Colombia, Mo./Rock Bridge) with eight.

Quarterback
Marin Bell (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) attempted 68 passes between the contests, 30 against Rockford and 38 against Marin. She completed 38 attempts for 367 yards and averaged 9.6 yards per completion while tallying five touchdowns. The junior threw four interceptions and was sacked four times.

Running back
Kyana Williams (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) led the Titans on the ground with 14 rushing yards on six attempts from scrimmage.

Two-way standout
Joely Schelfhout (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) accumulated 105 reception yards and three touchdowns through the air on eight catches while snagging her team high third and fourth interceptions of the season between the games and adding three flag pulls against Marian.

The Titans set season bests of 184 passing yards and three passing touchdowns against Rockford and highs of 21 pass completions, 38 pass attempts and 10 first downs against Marian.

Oshkosh's defense held the Regents to an opponent season low six first downs.

The Titans and Regents battled to a scoreless tie after the first quarter, helped by a Schelfhout interception on Oshkosh's 2-yard line to keep Rockford out of the end zone at 7:07.

A shanked Rockford punt set the Titans up at the Regents' 21-yard line and Bell found Schelfhout in the end zone on the first play of the drive, however Rockford picked her off on the point-after attempt and ran crossfield for the two-point safety.

Both teams' offenses stalled outside the 20s and Oshkosh held a 6-2 lead headed into halftime.

Schelfhout caught her second jump ball of the day at the front of the end zone with 2:10 remaining in the third quarter and a wide open
Jamaya Mariner (Green Bay/Green Bay East) caught the point-after attempt.

Oshkosh held a 13-2 lead over Rockford headed into the fourth quarter, however the Regents scored twice in the final period to claim a 15-13 edge with 6:11 left on the clock.

The Titans ate up the next 4:08 working their way downfield before Williams caught her second touchdown pass of the season at 2:03 to flip the lead.

While the point-after attempt was unsuccessful, Oshkosh's defense kept the Regents on their side of midfield to secure the win.

Regent dual threat quarterback Quentasia Mills completed 14 of 25 passing attempts for 81 yards and a touchdown while rushing 88 yards and adding another score on the ground.

Gina Niels received a touchdown on three receptions for 24 yards and Te Simpson paced the Regent defense with seven flag pulls, including two sacks.

Oshkosh started with the ball in the first quarter of its nightcap against Marian, but a quick punt gave the Sabres the ball on their 25. Sabre quarterback, rush threat and safety Holly Goodwin scored the first touchdown of the game with a 19-yard rush with 4:51 remaining in the opening stanza. A direct snap gave Marian the 7-0 lead.

On the day Goodwin went 12-for-23 for 126 yards and a touchdown, rushed seven times for 37 yards and a touchdown and returned a 30-yard pick six to account for three of Marian's four touchdowns.

The Titans responded with a 14-0 second quarter, scoring on touchdown passes of five and one yards from Bell to Schelfhout and Williams, respectively. Both point-after attempts were successful. The second scoring drive of the period was started when a pass bounced off the hands of a Sabre receiver and deflected off
Anika Roush (Byron, Ill./Byron) into Schelfhout's hands.

Marian nearly tied the score at 14-7 at the end of the third quarter, but Vitek stopped the receiver at the 1-yard line on fourth down to give the Titans possession headed into the final 12 minutes of play. However, Williams' flag was pulled in the end zone in the first play of the fourth period for a safety and the Sabres pulled with five points at 14-9.

Marian tallied its first of a pair of scores in the final period on a Daniela Chaname rushing touchdown.
Paige Vitek (Raymond/Union Grove) jumped in front of a Goodwin pass with 5:32 left on the clock for her first career interception when the score was 21-14, however Goodwin notched her interception that she returned for six points two plays later. The Sabres picked off Bell twice in the period, scoring off the turnover both times.

The Titans host their first outdoor game in program history on Sunday (April 12) as the welcome National Junior College Athletic Association member Bryant & Stratton College (3-2) to J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium for a 4 p.m. contest.
