Abe Nelson enters his third season with the UW-Oshkosh women’s soccer program in 2026.

Prior to arriving at UW-Oshkosh, Nelson was the head coach of the varsity girls soccer program at Oshkosh West High School. In that capacity he designed and implemented practice drills, scouted opponents and assisted in recruiting exposure for student-athletes interested in competing at the intercollegiate level.

Before his time with the Wildcats, Nelson was an assistant coach with the UW-Whitewater men’s soccer team from 2020-23, the varsity boys soccer head coach at Mukwonago High School from 2019-20 and the goalkeepers coach for the girls soccer team at Mukwonago High School from 2017-23. He started his time as a coach with the Wisconsin Olympic Development Program in 2018 and remains in that capacity.

Nelson earned his bachelor’s degree from UW-Stevens Point in 2013 and his master’s from UW-Whitewater in 2021. He has taught at Franklin and Park View middle schools in Mukwonago, and Wisconsin Connection Academy in Appleton. Professional qualifications he owns include a United States Soccer Federation National ‘D’ License and a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Goalkeeping Level 1 diploma.
