Braeden Melton enters his eighth season as an assistant coach with the UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball program in 2025.
Melton serves as the Titans' director of volleyball operations while assisting with recruiting, social media, middle training, opponent scouting and fundraising.
UW-Oshkosh has compiled a 174-66 record and seven straight winning seasons with Melton on the sidelines since 2017.
Last season Melton and UW-Oshkosh reached the national quarterfinals for the second straight season, finishing the 2024 campaign ranked fifth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll with a 29-6 record. The Titans, who advanced to the Elite Eight in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2008-09 after winning the Marietta (Ohio) Regional as the top seed, also clinched their second straight and 15th overall conference regular season title with a 6-1 league mark.
In 2023 the Titans went 37-2 (7-0 WIAC) and began the season with a conference-record 34 consecutive wins. UW-Oshkosh won the 14th WIAC regular season title in program history and the first outright since 2009. Only four matches went five sets across the entire season. The Titans defeated all three opponents in the NCAA Division III Championship Regional held in Oshkosh, advancing to their first quarterfinal round since 2009 and the sixth time in program history. UW-Oshkosh began the season ranked No. 15 in the nation by the AVCA and climbed as high as No. 2 and eventually holding No. 5 at the conclusion of the postseason tournament.
The Titans went 31-6 in 2022, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship and concluding the year ranked 15th in the country.
Melton played for the UW-Oshkosh men's club volleyball team and earned his bachelor's degree from UW-Oshkosh in 2017.
Playing for the UW-Oshkosh men's club volleyball team, Melton earned National Collegiate Volleyball Federation All-America honors as a middle blocker in both 2015 and 2017. He helped the Titans finish second at the national tournament in 2015, and fifth in both 2016 and 2017. Melton was also named the inaugural Titan of the Year for the men's club team in 2017.Â
Melton, a Beloit Memorial High School graduate, was a girls assistant volleyball coach at Waupun High School during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, working with the freshman and junior varsity teams in 2013 and the varsity squad in 2014, when the Warriors compiled a 37-12 record and advanced to the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Division 2 State Tournament.
After two years at Waupun, Melton joined the Winneconne High School girls volleyball coaching staff for the 2015 and 2016 seasons. His two years as the Wolves' varsity assistant coach featured a conference championship and a berth in the WIAA Division 2 Sectional Final in 2015.
During the summer of 2019, Melton helped launch Spiketown USA, a volleyball club program with satellite locations throughout Wisconsin that provides club opportunities for underserved areas of the state as well as programming for multi-sport athletes.
In the spring of 2023, Melton and Spiketown USA absorbed the club formerly known as Impact volleyball club and began offering a national style experience in the Fox Valley specifically. Overall, Spiketown USA provides opportunities for 40 teams and 400 athletes.
Melton lives in Neenah with his wife, Katelyn, a former UW-Oshkosh volleyball player and two-time NCAA Division III All-American, and their daughter, Roslyn.
