Box Score 2 Eric Fritz compiled 10 base hits, including the cycle during the nightcap, to lead nationally ranked UW-Stevens Point over the UW-Oshkosh baseball team three times on Wednesday (April 14) at Tiedemann Field.
The Pointers (15-6/6-2 WIAC), ranked 21st in the NCAA Division III by D3baseball.com, posted a 15-1 victory in the day's first game, which concluded after being suspended on April 7.
UW-Stevens Point took advantage of six walks and five hit batsmen to capture the second contest, 11-6. Fritz then amassed a single, double, triple and home run in leading the Pointers to a 14-4 decision in the finale.
Dan Douglas and Fritz marked back-to-back triples to go ahead early in the opener. The Titans (10-12/3-5 WIAC) responded in the bottom half with a Blake Berger (Jr. • Star Prairie) home run, but the Pointers answered in the second by scoring on an error for a 3-1 advantage.
A pair of two-run shots increased the margin as Josh Krueger and Justin Jirschele went deep in the third and fourth frames. It then became 11-1 when Fritz raked a run-scoring double and Jared Surman marked a two-run single. The Pointers tacked on three more runs during the fifth inning as Jeremy Richter launched a homer to left field.
Scott Williams improved to 5-0 after allowing one run in four frames, while Eric Van Beck got the save with three scoreless innings. The loss fell on Sean Grabig (Fr. • Howard), who tossed the opening 2.1 innings and yielded four earned runs.

UW-Stevens Point's half featured a two-run single by Sam Spurney, whereas the Titans got scoring hits from Derek Hiroskey (Jr. • Kimberly), Doug Beattie (Fr. • Escanaba, Mich.) and Mickey Fadness (Sr. • Eau Claire). Spurney listed another two-run single during the third frame as the Pointers upped their lead to 6-3.
In the sixth inning, Douglas doubled and used two wild pitches to score and make it a four-run cushion. A pair of hit-by-pitches put runners aboard for UW-Stevens Point as it capped the game with a four-run seventh. Fritz hit the first of four consecutive run-scoring singles, a streak that ended with Jordan Rennicke's base knock, to put an 11-3 figure on the scoreboard.
UW-Oshkosh, which marked on a Beattie single in the seventh and a Berger single during the eighth, had the loss go to Kyle Kannenberg (Sr. • Oshkosh). He fired seven innings, surrendering 10 earned runs on 14 hits, before Andrew Murphy (Fr. • Suamico) and Aaron Dressnandt (So. • Mukwonago) each notched a scoreless frame.
In the nightcap, the Pointers jumped out to a 3-0 advantage on Jeremy Richter's two-run homer and a Douglas single. The Titans cut into that deficit with two runs in the third, marking on Kannenberg's sacrifice fly and Hiroskey's single.
A pair of two-run singles, one by Richter and one by Jirschele, helped UW-Stevens Point tally five times on five hits during the fourth frame. Douglas then posted an RBI single following an error and wild pitch during the fifth to make it 9-2.
Fritz raced around the bases for his triple in the eighth inning, while he completed his cycle with a two-run bomb in the ninth. A Kevin Thomas single plated two runs during the Pointers' ninth after UW-Oshkosh tallied on a sacrifice fly and a wild pitch in the seventh frame.
The win belonged to Tyler Lorenz, who struck out six and allowed four runs in 6.1 innings. Ryan Povlick (five outs) and Ryan Iverson (three outs) each yielded one hit to close out the game.
