Titans Have Little Trouble In Defeating Warriors

UW-Oshkosh kicked off its three-match trip to the East Coast with a sweep of the Eastern Connecticut State University women's volleyball team on Friday (Nov. 1) in Willimantic, Conn.

The Titans (20-10) swept the Warriors (13-15) in set scores of 25-16, 25-8 and 25-19. It was the first meeting between the teams.

Katelyn Malcheski sparked UW-Oshkosh to the win by hitting .679 with 19 kills and no errors in 28 attempts. The Titans also received seven kills from both Jessica Fischer and Alexis Thiel.

UW-Oshkosh's Morgan Cizauskas and Alison Tomczyk passed the ball effectively, marking 22 and 19 assists, respectively.

Danielle Stoppenbach led the Titans on defense with 12 digs. Fischer added another 10 digs for UW-Oshkosh.

Eastern Connecticut State University, a first-time opponent of the Titans, hit .044 for the match. The eight kills from Nicki Gasch led the Warriors.

Eastern Connecticut State University also obtained nine assists from Allie Henry and 10 digs from Allie Luppi.

UW-Oshkosh trailed only twice all match, by a point twice early in the third set. The Titans raced to a 7-1 lead in the first set, with a kill and consecutive service aces by Hayley Rickmeier setting the tone for the night.

UW-Oshkosh strung together eight of the first nine points of the second set behind another kill and two more service aces from Rickmeier. Leading by five, the Titans ran off seven points in a row, four coming as direct results of kills by Malcheski – to ease to the second-set victory.

The Warriors led twice early in the final set on an UW-Oshkosh attack error and a kill from Adrianna Mihalek. Eastern Connecticut State University later erased a four-point deficit with four straight points on a kill from Gasch, a service ace from Erynn Miller and two UW-Oshkosh errors to tie the match at 12. A kill from Bry Kelly pulled the Warriors into their final tie at 13 before the Titans went ahead for good with three straight points, two coming on blocks by Nerisssa Vogt.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its road trip with contests against the University of Massachusetts-Boston and host Vassar College on Saturday (Nov. 2) in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
