Titans Earn Marathon Win And Convincing Victory

| Box Score 2

Tess Fadness (Jr. • Eau Claire) had a game-winning double among her four hits as UW-Oshkosh defeated both Worcester State University (Mass.) and the University of Mass.-Dartmouth on Thursday (March 21) in Fort Myers, Fla.

The Titans (8-4) battled for 13 innings before using a double by Fadness to beat Worcester, 5-4. Fadness, Kassie Krueger (Jr. • Plover) and Hillary Trebiatowski (Sr. • Plover) each posted two RBI as UW-Oshkosh topped Dartmouth, 8-1.

Worcester (3-4) broke a 0-0 tie in the fifth inning with a run-scoring single by Taylor Hanley. Hannah Everson then ripped a single down the third base line to go ahead, 2-0.

UW-Oshkosh bounced back with three runs in the sixth frame. Following a sacrifice fly by Kaelyn Hogan (Sr. • Greendale), Trebiatowski crushed a ball to deep leftfield. It bounced off the top of the wall for a two-run double that put the Titans on top, 3-2.

The Lancers used an error to tie the score during the bottom of the sixth. Neither team would mark for the next five innings.

Courtney Wautier (Sr. • Brussels), who threw a no-hitter yesterday, extended her streak of hitless innings to 14.1. She came on in relief and fired 6.2 perfect frames before surrendering an infield single.

Both teams scored once during the 12th inning. The Titans briefly went up on a Haley Bayreuther (Fr. • Janesville) single, but Worcester responded with a RBI single from Carolyn Hassett.

With two outs in the 13th, Fadness belted a double into right-center that scored the deciding run.

Wautier got the win, going eight innings with three strikeouts and one hit allowed. Jill Vondrak (Jr. • Westchester, Ill.) pitched the first five innings and yielded two earned runs with four strikeouts.

Hannah Everson (loss) threw all 13 innings for Worcester, allowing five unearned runs with seven strikeouts.

The Titans jumped right on the Corsairs (4-4) with three runs in the opening frame. Fadness provided the highlight with a two-run double over the rightfielder's head.

During the fifth, the bases were loaded for Trebiatowski, who rolled a two-run single up the middle for a 5-0 lead. Krueger then stole two bases, including home, while adding a RBI single in the sixth.

Dartmouth tallied its lone run on a single by Samantha Gregoire during the sixth frame.

Wautier earned her second victory of the day with four shutout innings (5 K). Melissa Gutsmiedl (Fr. • Winneconne) tossed the last three innings for the save.

The loss went to Shannon Orton after she allowed one ER in three frames. Becky Williams pitched the final three innings and was charged with five runs on eight hits.

UW-Oshkosh concludes its Florida swing against UW-Superior and Hamilton College (N.Y.) on Friday (March 22).
