Box Score 2 UW-Oshkosh snapped UW-Stevens Point's eight-game win streak during their baseball split on Wednesday (May 1) in Stevens Point.
Casey Barnes posted seven RBI as the Pointers took the opener, 18-8. UW-Oshkosh jumped to an 8-0 lead in the nightcap and held on for a 12-7 victory.
UW-Stevens Point (25-8/13-5 WIAC) totaled 30 hits on the day, including four apiece by Jimmy Coady, Dan Douglas, Sean Gerber and Clint Rose.
The Titans (19-10/8-8 WIAC) established a quick 3-0 lead in the first game. Michael Swift and Robbie Kleman marked RBI singles in the initial frame.
The Pointers responded with at least three runs in each of the first five innings. Coady and Ryan Schilter blasted two-run homers in the first. UW-Oshkosh then committed three errors in the second, helping UW-Stevens Point to an 8-3 cushion.
During the fourth, Barnes stepped up with the bases loaded and two outs. He walloped a grand slam to left field that made it 15-4.
UW-Oshkosh scored three times in the seventh, including twice on a single from Zac Peterson.
The pitching loss went to Michael Swift, who allowed six earned runs in the first 1.1 frames. Matt Sabel then was charged with four ER in 1.1 innings and Andrew Buss six ER over the final 3.1.
JP Feyereisen tossed the first five innings, allowing three ER with five strikeouts, for the win.
The Titans got their offense going in game two, tallying twice in the first inning and six times in the second. Tyler Kamps launched a solo homer in the game's second at-bat. During the second frame, Michael Polcyn smacked a two-run single and Bobby Kachel followed with a two-run homer to lead, 8-0.
UW-Oshkosh added two runs on Neil Hebert's third-inning double.
UW-Stevens Point received run-scoring singles from Douglas in the second and sixth frames. Schilter also produced a two-run homer in the sixth that cut the deficit to 11-6.
Improving to 4-0, Joe Pavlovich fired six innings while allowing five ER. Five Pointers took the mound, with Zach Wendorf accepting the loss. He surrendered six runs (two earned) in the first 1.2 innings.
