Defending WIAC Champion Warhawks Rally To Defeat Titans

UW-Whitewater scored three consecutive second-half goals to rally for a 3-2 victory over the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team on Wednesday (Sept. 25) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

The three-time defending WIAC champion Warhawks did all of their damage in a span of 16 minutes, with Jenna Woodson scoring the match-winning goal during the 82nd minute (81:30) of play. Woodson retrieved a loose ball off a corner kick and kicked it into the net for her second goal of the season.

UW-Oshkosh (3-5-1, 1-1 WIAC) stunned UW-Whitewater (7-0-2, 2-0 WIAC) by scoring a pair of first-half goals within a span of 55 seconds. The Titans took a 1-0 lead when Ashley Nicholas followed a pass from Robyn Elliott and scored off a breakaway in the game's 39th minute (38:20).

The Titans doubled their lead when Megan White scored off a low kick during the 40th minute (39:15) of action. White's goal came after a pass from Amanda Baalke.

Brianna Reid ignited UW-Whitewater's comeback by scoring goals in the 67th (66:15) and 71st (70:56) of play. Her first goal, a header, came directly off Sierra High's corner kick. The second goal came off a battle for a loose ball following a corner kick.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 14 shots, with five belonging to Baalke and two each to Nicholas, White and Christina Mauthe. UW-Whitewater compiled 13 shots, with Reid owning four and Carly Pottle three. It marked the first time this season that the Warhawks were outshot.

A total of 11 goalkeeping saves were made, including six by UW-Oshkosh's Katie Berkopec. Jordan Myers had five stops for UW-Whitewater. Both goalies recorded three of their saves in the opening period.
