Titans Find Success In Season-Opening Match

After falling behind in the second minute of play, UW-Oshkosh scored a pair of goals early in the second half to record a 2-1 season-opening victory over the Concordia University Wisconsin women's soccer team on Thursday (Sept. 1) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.

Brittany Klumpp gave Concordia University Wisconsin (0-1) a quick 1-0 lead when she scored on the Falcons' first shot of the season. Klumpp's 15-yard kick 120 seconds into the match followed a serve from Kayla Schlosser.

Concordia University Wisconsin withstood nine first-half shots by UW-Oshkosh and went to intermission with a 1-0 lead. The Falcons ended the opening period with seven shots.

UW-Oshkosh (1-0) evened the score on its second shot of the second half. Alyssa Arnold (Grafton/Grafton) created the tie when she tapped in a five-yard shot off a corner kick from sister Taylor Arnold (Grafton/Grafton) in the 50th minute (49:27).

Seven minutes later (56:10), UW-Oshkosh took the lead on an 18-yard kick from Rachel Elliott (Sussex/Hamilton). Megan Paulick (Omro/Oshkosh West) assisted on Elliott's seventh match-winning goal of her career.

The Titans held on for the win as goalkeeper Jessica Galason (Huntley, Ill./Huntley), a first-year transfer from Illinois State University, stopped a pair of shots during the final 16 minutes of play. Galason finished her UW-Oshkosh debut with five saves.

UW-Oshkosh totaled 16 shots in the match, including three apiece from Alyssa Arnold (Grafton/Grafton) and Rachel Elliott (Sussex/Hamilton). The Titans, who defeated Concordia University Wisconsin for the 13th time in 16 matches (13-2-1 record), also received two shots from AJ Jackson (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West).

Concordia University Wisconsin, which suffered just its third loss in 20 games (14-3-3 record), ended the contest with 10 shots. The Falcons were led by the five shots from Schlosser, including four on goal.

Tabitha Ortiz guarded the Concordia University Wisconsin goal and blocked seven shots.

The Titans earned seven of the contest's eight corner kicks, including all four in the second half.

UW-Oshkosh plays eight of its next nine matches on the road, beginning with Saturday's (Sept. 3) game at the University of Dubuque (Iowa).
