Pioneers Take Both Games Of Doubleheader With Titans

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The UW-Oshkosh baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader at UW-Platteville on Friday (May 3), falling by scores of 16-3 in the opener and 11-0 during the nightcap. Both games were halted in the seventh inning due to the 10-run rule.

UW-Platteville (18-17, 13-9 WIAC) collected 35 total hits Friday en route to clinching the third seed at the four-team WIAC Championship that begins next weekend.

UW-Oshkosh (17-20, 10-12, WIAC) fell one spot to fifth in the league standings with two games remaining.

Jonathan Kelso went a combined 7-for-8 at the plate with seven runs batted in to spearhead the UW-Platteville offense. He hit a grand slam that extended the Pioneer lead to 10-3 during the fifth inning of the first contest.

UW-Platteville trailed, 3-2, in the opener until scoring 14 runs on 12 hits during the bottom of the fifth inning. Kelso finished the first game 4-for-4 with five RBIs.

UW-Oshkosh took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning following a run-scoring single from Hunter Staniske. Griffith Lukes later became the ninth Titan to hit a home run this season as his first collegiate longball knotted the score at 2 in the top of the fifth inning before Alex Koch, who went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, provided UW-Oshkosh its lone lead of the day at 3-2 with an RBI two-base hit.

UW-Platteville starting pitcher Keegan Madigan (4-1) picked up a complete-game win, limiting the Titans to three runs on seven hits. He recorded three strikeouts without issuing a walk.

Titans starting pitcher Colan Treml (6-5) suffered the loss after yielding six runs on eight hits and six walks with five strikeouts across four-plus innings. Treml became the first WIAC pitcher to log more than 300 innings pitched, increasing his league career-record total to 301 during his four seasons.

During the nightcap Pioneers starting pitcher Russell Lundius fired a one-hitter with three walks and two strikeouts to improve his record to 3-1 on the year. His lone hit allowed was a Koch single in the fourth inning.

Kelso and Ryan Vogel both had three hits and two RBIs for UW-Platteville. Josh Moses also added three of the Pioneers' 17 hits.

UW-Oshkosh starting pitcher Will Michalski (1-4) was charged with the loss, allowing eight runs on 12 hits with five strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

UW-Oshkosh wraps up the regular season with two games at UW-Platteville on Saturday (May 4). The Titans need to win both contests in order to earn the fourth and final seed at the WIAC Championship that commences May 10.
