Titans Rally To Edge Eagles In Season Debut

The UW-Oshkosh women's gymnastics team rallied in the final two rotations to edge UW-La Crosse, 181.900-181.350, during its opening meet of the 2020 season held Friday (Jan. 10) in Kolf Sports Center.

The Titans trailed 92.600-90.900 after two rotations before outscoring the Eagles 45.325-44.850 on the balance beam and 45.675-43.900 in the floor exercise. UW-La Crosse earlier outscored UW-Oshkosh 46.650-46.350 on the vault and 45.950-44.550 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh, which earned its first dual meet victory over UW-La Crosse since January 23, 1993 (137.85-136.85 in La Crosse), received individual wins on Friday from Kaira Hammond and Emily Gilot.

Hammond recorded a winning score of 9.40 on the balance beam while finishing sixth on the uneven bars with a figure of 9.075.

Gilot won the all-around competition with a score of 36.075 while recording third-place values of 9.35 in the floor exercise and 9.225 on the uneven bars.

UW-Oshkosh had three other top-six finishers in the floor exercise as Jessica Bernardo placed second with a score of 9.375, freshman Kennedy Springer third at 9.35 and Amira Ali sixth at 9.00. Ali also listed third with teammate Rahdea Jarvis on the vault with a score of 9.375.

The Titans also acquired a third-place score of 9.225 on the uneven bars from Baylee Tkaczuk, a fourth-place mark of 9.25 on the balance beam from Paige Mayhew and a fifth-place figure of 9.175 on the balance beam from Olivia Keller.

UW-La Crosse owned the winner in three categories as Emma Grant posted a score of 9.425 in the floor exercise, Megan Hawkins a count of 9.525 on the vault and Kerrie LeGault a result of 9.55 on the uneven bars.

Friday's meet involved the two winningest programs in WIAC Championship history as UW-La Crosse entered the 2020 season with 24 league titles and UW-Oshkosh 14. The Titans finished second and the Eagles fourth at last year's WIAC Championship.

UW-Oshkosh will host UW-Whitewater and defending WIAC champion UW-Stout next Friday (Jan. 17) in Kolf Sports Center.
