Big Second Half Propels Titans Past Pointers

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team scored four goals for the second time this season on Wednesday night (Oct. 18) when it defeated UW-Stevens Point 4-1.

Oshkosh (3-9-3, 2-3 WIAC) outshot Stevens Point (6-8-1, 3-2 WIAC) 23 to 19 and tallied 10 shots on goal to the Pointers' nine. In goal, Emma Sauriol (Jr. • New Lenox, Ill.) saved eight of the nine shots on goal she faced.

Alayna Clark (Jr. • Watertown) led the Titans with three shots (two on goal), a goal and an assist in the big win.

Gabriella Mattio (Fr. • Plainfield, Ill.), Brynn Higgins (So. • Oswego, Ill.) and Maddie Anderson (Jr. • Crystal Lake, Ill.) scored the other three goals. Higgins and Anderson both scored the first goal of their collegiate careers.

Moving to eighth in program history with 50 career points, Rylie Kaufmann (Sr. • St. Charles, Ill.) recorded an assist in the match. She also shot three times in the match, joined by Molly Jackson (Jr. • Appleton), Mackenzie Stein (Palatine, Ill.) and Anderson.

Mattio found the back of the net in the 37th minute for the first goal of the match, assisted by Kaufmann.

Clark extended the Titans' lead in the 51st minute from Anna Zenz (Fr. • West Allis) with the first goal of the second half. Higgins followed with the third Titan goal quickly in the 57th minute, assisted by Clark.

Mara Gustafson scored Stevens Point's lone goal of the match in the 61st minute on a free kick.

A corner kick set up the final goal of the match in the 79th minute when Ariana Gonzalez (Fr. • Appleton) booted the ball to Anderson.

The Titans return to action at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 21) to face off against UW-River Falls at 4 p.m. for Senior Day.
