Buikema Hits Pair of Home Runs; Titans Split with Pointers

STEVENS POINT, Wis.—Gabby Buikema hit two home runs in the Titans games this afternoon as the UW-Oshkosh Titans (31-55, 8-4 WIAC) split the conference doubleheader with the UW-Stevens Point Pointers (21-11, 5-7 WIAC).

The Titans posted a 6-1 victory in game one before posting a 4-3 defeat in the second game.

The Titans bats were hot in the first game as the Titans recorded 10 hits, doubling the Pointers five hits. Both sets of bats cooled down for the second game with the Titans recording three hits compared to four from the Pointers. 

The Titans are ranked 22nd in this week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association Poll.

Game One Recap  

The Titans struck first in the game as Buikema scored the opening run from Morgan Rau's double to right-center field.

The Pointers would tie the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning for their only run of the game.

Brianna Davis doubled down the left field line as Sophie Wery crossed home plate for the Titans second run.

Buikema hit her second career home run, a three-run home run in the top of the fourth as Abby Garceau and Ana Iliopoulos scored for the Titans.

Davis crossed the plate in the top of the seventh on Haylie Wittman's RBI double to left center field for the final run of the game.

In the pitcher's circle for the Titans, Maddie Fink (15-2) allowed five hits, one run, issued one walk, and struck out five in her 15th complete game this season.

Buikema, Davis, and Morgan Rau recorded multi-hit games as the Titans tallied 10 hits in the contest.

Game Two Recap

Buikema hit her second home run of the day in the first inning for the Titans, bringing home Garceau on the hit.

The Pointers answered in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs on a 2 RBI single to right field.

Garceau grounded out to first base as Wittman scored the game-tying run for the Titans in the top of the second inning.

The Pointers scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the third inning, an RBI single. 

In the pitcher's circle, Sydney Nemetz (13-2) issued three walks and struck out six batters.  

Looking at the Record Book  

Hannah Ritter is six hits away from having the most hits in school history. Currently, Ritter has 190 hits. The record is 195 and was set by Sydnee Wyss, who played for the Titans from 2008-2011. 

Next Time on the Field  

The Titans conclude the regular season, hosting UW-Platteville. The Pioneers (24-12, 7-5 WIAC) and Titans are set for first pitch at 1 p.m. on May 6. The Titans will honor the senior class and have Clash's Kids Day on May 6.
