Titans Fly Past Comets in Home Opener

Gabby Born recorded a goal and an assist in the 4-0 win over Olivet

OSHKOSH, Wis.- Thirteen members of the UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team got in on the offensive bonanza with at least one shot in the Titan's 4-0 win over the University of Olivet (Mich.) Comets on Sunday (Sept. 10).

Gabby Born, Lauren Silvestri, Anika Roush and Rylie Kaufmann all scored. Kaufmann paced UWO with five shots on goal, followed by Gabriella Mattio, Brianna Kehl and Anna Zenz with four, Anika Roush with three and Lauren Janssens, Mackenzie Stein and Maris Heun with two. Five Titans shot once in the match. Heun and Roush each recorded an assist.

UW-Oshkosh tied the all-time series with Olivet in the win at 1-1. It has now outscored Olivet 5-2 in the series.

The Titans (1-3-1) owned control of the ball on Sunday with 31 shots in the match, with 15 on goal while their defense allowed Olivet (0-3) to shoot only once. The Comets made an on goal attempt in the 86th minute by Taylor Facca that Titan goalkeeper Ella Sasse. Sasse spent all 90 minutes in goal in her second career start, while Sarah Willard and Viveca Krolczyk split goalkeeper duties for Olivet.

After four shots didn't make it past Willard in the four previous minutes, Born scored the first goal in the 22nd minute, assisted by Roush.

Silvestri scored on a penalty kick in the 35th minute for the second goal of the first half after being taken down by Ava Cristea.

Taking a corner kick four minutes into the second half, Roush booted the ball to the far corner of the goal to give the Titans a 3-0 lead.

Heun assisted Kaufmann for the fourth goal of the match in the 89th minute after her own shot was saved by Krolczyk.

The Titans will travel to Kenosha to take on the Carthage College Firebirds on Saturday (Sept. 16) at 1 p.m. UWO is 1-4-2 all-time against Carthage, most recently tying the Firebirds 1-1 in two overtimes on Sept. 21, 2019 in Oshkosh. Rylie Kaufmann, then a freshman, registered a shot on goal in the 25th minute of the match that was saved by the Carthage goalkeeper.
