STEVENS POINT, Wis.-Â The UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball team (22-4, 4-1 WIAC) won in five sets against UW-Stevens Point (17-9, 4-1 WIAC) on Saturday (Oct. 26). The Titans won the first two sets with scores of 25-16 and 25-21. They lost the third and fourth sets with scores of 27-25 and 26-24, then came back strong for the fifth set, winning it 15-13.
The Titans had 74 kills, with the Pointers recording 57. The Titans also led in assists and aces. The Titans had 70 assists, as opposed to 55 for Stevens Point. The Titans also had 9 aces, with Point having 7.
Sami Perlberg (So. • Chippewa Falls) led the Titans in kills with 26, a career high.
Kalli Mau (Fifth • Appleton) had 27 assists to lead the Titans.
Abby Fregien (Sr. • Waukesha) and Perlberg both had 19 digs to lead the Titans.
In the first set, a kill from Perlberg kicked off a run of points for the Titans, making the score 11-9. The Titans won five straight points making the score 15-9. Perlberg finished off the first set with a kill to win it 25-16.
Malia Winchel (So • Oak Creek) started off the second set with an ace, followed by a kill from
Lauren Grier (So. • Fond du Lac) to give the Titans the early lead. The Titans briefly fell behind before starting a comeback, with an ace by Fregien to make the score 13-12. The Titans went on a roll, with a kill from
Riley Kindt (Fifth • Brookfield) to make the score 17-12. Like the first set, Perlberg finished off the second set with a kill to win 25-21.
The Pointers took an early lead in the third set, going ahead 3-0 and then 6-1. The Titans clawed their way back to make the score 9-8 on a kill by
Olivia Breunig (Sr. • Sauk Prairie). The Titans kept their lead, expanding it to five points on a kill from
Joslyn Wolff (Sr. • Reeseville), making the score 21-16. Unfortunately, they couldn't hold on, and the Pointers won the set 27-25.
In the fourth set, the Titans took the early lead, going up 5-3 on a kill by Breunig. They expanded their lead to 20-15 on a kill by Wolff. However, like the third set, the Pointers slowly come back and ended up winning the set 26-24.
The Pointers took a commanding lead in the fifth set, winning the first five points and then going up 7-1, and then 10-2. After being down 11-4, a kill by
Izzy Coon (Jr. • Fond du Lac) sent the Titans on a scoring spree, scoring five straight points. The Titans once again climbed their way back, and an ace from Winchel gave the Titans not just the set win, but the match win as well.
The Titans travel to UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday (Oct. 30) for another WIAC matchup.
