TIFFIN, Ohio- The UW-Oshkosh men's basketball team took down the No. 9 nationally ranked Calvin University Knights in Tiffin, Ohio at Seiberling Gymnasium, in the Heidelberg University Ron Linhart Memorial Tournament on Friday (Nov. 15) by a score of 75-67.

The Titans (1-1) outshot the Knights (0-3) by shooting 45 percent (27-of-60) from the field and 37.5 (9-of-24) from beyond the arc, to the Knights' 39.3 percent (10-of-28) from the field and 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from 3-point land. The Titans also outrebounded the Knights 34 to 29, while  dominating from the get-go leading, for 33 minutes of the contest.

Oshkosh was again led by Michael Metcalf-Grassman (So. • Shawano/Waukesha) as he scored 23 points on 8-of-21 percent from the field, and added seven rebounds and five assists in his 33 minutes on the court. Guard Carter Thomas (Jr. • Neenah) added 17 points of his own on an efficient 5-of-10 from the field and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. He also made all four of his free throw attempts. Joey LaChapell (Fr. • Appleton) had a great game in his first career start for the Titans, scoring 14 points by going 5-of-9 from the field and 2-of-3 with the three ball.

The Titans were scorching to start the game, opening up play with a 16-5 run, with Metcalf-Grassman scoring half of the Titans' points in that 6-minute stretch. Oshkosh furthered its lead by going on another dominant spurt to put the score at 29-11 with 8:03 to go in the half. Calvin tried climbing back on an 11-5 run to get the game within nine points, at 31-22 with 3:19 left in the half. The last three minutes were close with Calvin able to put together a 7-4 run to head into the locker room down, 35-27.

The opening four minutes of the second half were close with Oshkosh having a 10-7 run, with five points each from LaChapell and Thomas, putting the Titans up 45-34 with 16 minutes to go in the contest. The teams stayed neck-and-neck for the following three minutes, each putting up seven points in that span, with the score sitting at 49-41. Calvin scored its way back into the matchup, creating a 15-6 run to tie the game at 55 with nine minutes remaining, effectively erasing UW-Oshkosh's earlier lead. The Knights then surged ahead with a 10-2 run, going up 63-57 with 5:22 to go. Not to be counted out, the Titans stormed back with an 8-2 run to knot the teams at 65-65, with under three minutes in the contest. Oshkosh closed out the neutral site game with an 11-2 run to win 75-67.

The Titans are slated to play again Saturday night (Nov 16) at 7 p.m. in the championship game of the Heidelberg University Ron Linhart Memorial Tournament against Manchester University (Ind.).
