Fynaardt Catches Two Touchdowns On Senior Day

Dan Fynaardt caught six passes for career highs of 128 yards and two touchdowns

OSHKOSH, Wis.- Dan Fynaardt recorded career highs of 128 receiving yards and two touchdowns on UW-Oshkosh football's Senior Day at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Saturday (Nov. 9). The Titans faced UW-Stout and mounted a 21-point comeback in the second half before falling on a field goal as time expired, 45-42.

The Titans (6-3, 4-2 WIAC), ranked No. 9 in the nation by D3football.com and No. 13 by the American Football Coaches Association, accumulated 493 yards of total offense with 367 yards through the air and 126 on the ground. They tallied 25 first downs, converted five of 12 third down chances, one of two on fourth down and scored on three of their four trips to the red zone.

The Blue Devils (6-3, 4-2 WIAC), who are receiving votes in both polls this week, also surpassed 400 yards of offense with 472 (352 passing, 120 rushing). Stout totaled 24 first downs, going eight of 13 on third down chances, one of one on fourth, and scored on all five trips to the red zone.

Brooks Blount (Fifth • Waukesha) completed 24 of his 43 passing attempts for 367 yards and four touchdowns, adding 19 yards on four rushing attempts. His touchdowns went for 68, 22, 16, and 29 yards.

Fynaardt's (Sr. • Waukesha) two touchdowns and 128 yards came on six receptions. He was followed by Trae Tetzlaff (Sr. • Waukesha) and Cade Oiler (Sr. • Watertown) with a touchdown each. Tetzlaff caught six passes for 81 yards and Oiler's sole reception was for 22 yards.

Leading UW-Oshkosh in rushing was Justice Lovelace (So. • Kenosha). Lovelace rushed 19 times for 104 yards with a long of 20 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Kyle Dietzen (Jr. • Omro) once again led the Titans in tackles at 12 (four solo). Eli Curry (Fr. • Geneva, Ill.) and Joey Gordon (Sr. • Greendale) each recorded a full tackle for loss while Taye Derrico (Fr. • Appleton) registered seven tackles (four solo) and two pass breakups.

UW-Oshkosh received the opening kickoff and marched down the field in 11 plays, capped off by Lovelace's 2-yard run to the endzone. UW-Stout quickly tied the game at 7-7 with a rushing touchdown of its own. In the following possession, the Titans fumbled the ball on a handoff and the Blue Devils jumped ahead by a score with 22 seconds in the first quarter. Oshkosh needed just one play to retie the contest as Blount threw to Fynaardt for 68 yards.

The Blue Devils ate up five minutes of the clock with 12 plays before scoring their third touchdown of the day with 9:40 on the clock. Oshkosh punted twice and Stout once in the next three possessions and the Blue Devils went up two touchdowns on an 8-yard rush before the 2-minute warning. The three following possessions failed to produce a score and Stout led 28-14 at halftime.

The Blue Devils received the second half kickoff and scored their fifth touchdown six plays later. Not to be counted out, Oshkosh moved the ball 84 yards downfield and scored when Oiler caught his 22-yard pass in the endzone. Stout scored its last touchdown of the game on a 23-yard pass.

The Titans took control of the ball at the end of the quarter and retained possession through the beginning of the fourth, pulling back within 14 points as Fynaardt scored for the second time on a 16-yard catch. The UW-Oshkosh defense earned its third stop of the day on a 3-and-out and Dayshawn Henry (So. • Oshkosh) blocked the punt to give the offense a starting position at the Stout 45-yard line. It took the Titans four plays to score again, this time it was Lovelace rushing for 16 yards. Yet another 3-and-out gave Oshkosh the ball back and it knotted the score at 42-42 when Tetzlaff caught a 29-yard pass from Blount with 6:27 in the game. Nolan Mobley (Sr. • Oak Creek) kicked the ball 63 yards and Blue Devil returner brought it out to the 27-yard line before Kaleb Brooks (So. • Brillion) knocked it from his hands and Josh Grignon (Fr. • Winneconne) jumped on it. Lovelace ran four times, moving the line of scrimmage to the 17-yard line before the drive stalled. The 34-yard field goal was not successful, and the Blue Devils took control. They marched down field, eating up over three minutes of the clock, ultimately winning on Luke Cool's 24-yard field goal attempt as time expired.

The Titans will hit the road next Saturday (Nov. 16) for their WIAC finale at UW-River Falls (6-3, 3-3 WIAC) at 1 p.m.
