Titans Defeat Duhawks In Triangular

Alysa Pattee won both of her singles matches and a doubles match on Saturday

DUBUQUE, Iowa- The UW-Oshkosh women's tennis team defeated Loras College (Iowa) and lost to Wartburg College (Iowa) in Dubuque on Saturday (Sept. 14).
 
The Titans (3-2) opened their day against Wartburg (3-4), dropping a 5-2 decision. The Knights took the doubles point by winning all three doubles matches.
 
Oshkosh's victories over Wartburg came in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Mana Usui (Fr. • Franklin) defeated Emma Thurness 6-4, 6-0 and Alysa Pattee (Sr. • Waupun) beat Tori Johnson 7-5, 6-1. The Titans lost two additional close matches. Olivia Pethan (So. • Oshkosh) lost the first set of No. 1 singles 7-5 and won the second 6-3, forcing a third set where she fell 10-5. In the No. 4 singles, Brianna Owens (Fr. • Appleton) took the second set 7-5 after losing the first 6-4. In the deciding third set, Knight Morgan Kathman won 10-8.
 
UW-Oshkosh beat Loras (2-3) in its second match of the day, taking all three doubles matches for the team point and four of the six singles spots.
 
Pethan and Pattee won at No. 1 7-5, Usui and Owens took No. 2 by a 6-3 score and Cate Gerl (So. • Joliet, Ill.) and Courtney Carpenter (Jr. • Oshkosh) defeated their Duhawk opponents 6-3.
 
In the singles matchups, Pethan gave her No. 1 singles opponent a 6-3, 6-2 loss, Usui won at No. 2 by posting a 6-4, 6-2 score, and Pattee defeated Caroline Hutchinson 6-3, 6-4 to round out the top three spots. Owens once again went to an extra set in the No. 4 singles, falling 6-4, 4-6, 10-3. Vianna Dao (Fr. • Oshkosh) also went to extras at No. 5, pulling out a close 10-8 victory in set three after dropping the first set 6-3 and winning the second 7-5.
