PLATTEVILLE, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's soccer team captured a road conference win on Saturday night (Oct. 18) as it took down UW-Platteville by a score of 1-0.
Gabby Born (Fond du Lac/Fond du Lac) scored what would turn into the go-ahead goal in the 57th minute.
The Titans (5-4-5, 1-2-1 WIAC) recorded 16 shots (seven on goal) to Platteville's (8-4-2, 2-1-1 WIAC) eight (three on goal). Sixteen total fouls were committed with seven belonging to Oshkosh and nine to the Pioneers.
Gabby Born (Fond du Lac/Fond du Lac) collected her second goal of the season after attempting three shots with two on goal in her 63 minutes on the pitch.
Jaden LeRoy (Evansville/Evansville) assisted the goal and added two shots of her own. Two other Titans shot three times including
Greta Steines (Eau Claire/Eau Claire Memorial) and
Ella Duckmann (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove). Goalkeeper
Mallory Kerhin (Green Bay/Green Bay Southwest) recorded her fifth shutout of the campaign as saved three shots in her 90 minutes of game time.
The match kicked off with Kerhin getting her first save of the night in the third minute.
Shannon Walsh (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) and Born both then attempted shots in the seventh minute that were saved by Platteville's keeper. A minute later, Kerhin jumped in front of another shot on goal.
Addyson Edwards (Appleton/Appleton West) tried to find the ball a home with a shot on goal that was saved in the 10th minute, then Steines then had her chance in the 15th minute with a shot that was stopped short of the net. Kerhin picked up her third save in the 29th minute. Both teams recorded shots in the remainder of the half, but neither put any on goal.
Duckmann tried again to put the lead in the Titans' favor to open the second half with a 53rd minute shot on goal, but again the Pioneers' goalkeeper prevailed.
The Titans broke the scoreless tie in the 57th minute with a goal off the foot of Born who was assisted by LeRoy. LeRoy passed the ball right to Born, who was dashing right into the box for a chip shot to the top right corner of the net.
Born took another close attempt to make the score 2-0, missing high. Steines nearly stretched Oshkosh's lead in the 73rd minute with another shot that was saved.
UW-Oshkosh is back on the pitch on Wednesday (Oct. 22) for another road game as the Titans travel to Whitewater for a conference matchup against UW-Whitewater (6-5-5, 1-2-1 WIAC). The match is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Robert Fiskum Field.
