Blugolds Defeat Titans In Defensive Battle

Addyson Knoebel took two shots and notched a shot on goal on Saturday

EAU CLAIRE, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's soccer traveled north to face UW-Eau Claire on Saturday (Oct. 4) for its first conference match of the season. An early goal gave the Blugolds a lead they held onto to win, 1-0.
 
The Titans (4-3-3, 0-1 WIAC) shot eight times with three shots on goal while the Blugolds (2-7-3, 1-0 WIAC) shot nine times with five on goal. Ariana Gonzalez (Appleton/Appleton North) led Oshkosh with three shots (one on goal), followed by Addyson Knoebel (Appleton/Appleton West) with two shots (one on goal). Ella Duckmann (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) put her only shot on goal.
 
Mallory Kerhin (Green Bay/Green Bay Southwest) spent all 90 minutes in goal and recorded four saves.
 
Eau Claire scored its lone goal four minutes into the contest.
 
Knoebel and Gonzalez registered UW-Oshkosh's first two shots in the 12th and 13th minutes before Gonzalez's potential equalizer was saved at 18:34.
 
The Blugolds held Oshkosh without a shot for the remainder of the half and Kerhin jumped in front of a shot on goal in the 40th minute.
 
The Titans took all of their second-half shots in the first 17 minutes, including shots on goal by Knoebel and Duckmann and a kick off the crossbar by Gonzalez in the 55th minute.
 
UW-Eau Claire attempted to extend its edge late with a pair of shots on goal at 80:54 and 82:35 and Kerhin again saved both shots to retain the 1-0 score.
 
The Titans will host UW-Stevens Point (5-4-4, 0-1 WIAC) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Wednesday (Oct. 8) at 7 p.m.
