OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh football broke a two-game skid at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Saturday (Nov. 8), defeating UW-Stevens Point for the sixth consecutive season by posting a score of 41-15.
Â
The Titans (5-4, 3-3 WIAC), receiving votes in both the
D3football.com and
American Football Coaches Association polls, recorded 499 offensive yards by totaling 221 yards and the ground and 278 yards through the air. They averaged 6.7 yards on 33 rushes and 11.1 yards per pass including 18.5 yards per completion. In its 11 drives, Oshkosh scored touchdowns in six and punted four times.
Â
While the Pointers (4-5, 1-5 WIAC) led in time of possession with 33:52, the Titans went 100-percent in red zone trips, recorded two sacks for 22 yards, and intercepted a pair of passes.
Â
Using a platoon of quarterbacks, Oshkosh's passers completed 15 of their 25 attempts and tossed five touchdowns.
Quentin Keene (Waunakee/Waunakee) went 6-for-9 for 121 yards with two touchdowns,
AJ Korth (Menasha/Menasha) went 8-for-14 for 102 yards with two touchdowns, and
Will Brust (Greendale/Greendale) completed his only passing attempt for a 55-yard score.
Â

Â
Five Titans caught touchdowns in the 26-point win.

Clayton Schwalbe (Waukesha/Waukesha North) totaled 65 yards on two catches,
Gabe Torres (Greendale/Greendale) scored on his 55-yard catch,
Jon Mathieu (Sheboygan Falls/Sheboygan Falls) caught a pair of passes for 20 yards, and
Kellan Mella (Plymouth/Plymouth) caught a 16-yard pass in the end zone.
Â

Johnny Spallasso (Sugar Grove, Ill./Kaneland) and
Chad Gerig (Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) both snagged an interception and Jax Ratczak registered two hurries.
Â
Oshkosh got the Titan faithful that braved the cold weather on their feet early. After Keene connected with Brush for 18 yards in the first play of the game, he threw a deep pass down the middle of the field to Schwalbe, who caught the ball at the Pointers' 36 and dashed the rest of the way for a 7-0 lead just 45 seconds into the game.
Â
Stevens Point totaled 14 plays in the following drive before stalling out at the 25-yard line and missing a 42-yard field goal.
Â
Both teams punted in the next two drives and Oshkosh capped off a 10-play, 82-yard drive with its second touchdown as Keene threw an 11-yard score to Mathieu.
Â
The Pointers scored their first touchdown at the start of the second quarter to make the score 14-7, which was followed by four unsuccessful possessions.
Â
With the Pointers standing in the red zone and threatening to tie the game before halftime, Gerig jumped in front of a pass in the end zone to give the Titans the ball at Stevens Point's 20. A 25-yard pass to Gibson and 20 more yards on the ground for Korth flipped the field and three plays later, he found Brush open at the 15-yard line, who took the ball into the end zone to increase the deficit to 13 points at the half.
Â
The Pointers received the second half kickoff, but a short rush, an incomplete pass, and a sack fumble that they recovered forced a third-and-out. The Titans did the same in their possession and another sack for Dietzen induced yet another punt that set Oshkosh up at their 20.
Â
Korth finished a rush-heavy drive by darting 35 yards with 2:22 remaining in the third quarter, increasing Oshkosh's lead to 20 points at 27-7.
Â
After another Stevens Point punt to open the fourth quarter, Oshkosh drove 65 yards downfield in 14 plays and scored its fifth touchdown of the day when Mella caught a pass from Korth to create a game-high 27-point lead.
Â
Spallasso ended the Pointers' succeeding drive by intercepting a pass in the end zone, but a block in the back pinned the Titans against their end zone and Stevens Point stopped
Kacey Spranger (Mount Pleasant/Union Grove) in the backfield for a safety.
Â
Stevens Point scored its last points of the day with a 7-yard touchdown in the next possession.
Â
Not content with less than two minutes left in the contest, Brust threw his first career touchdown to
Gabe Torres (Greendale/Greendale), who also scored for the first time in black and gold.
Â
The Pointers got the ball back with 1:34 remaining and reached Oshkosh's 25-yard line before running out of clock.
Â
The Titans will wrap up the regular season by hosting No. 14/17 UW-Whitewater (7-2, 4-2 WIAC) on Saturday, November 15 at 1 p.m. Oshkosh is 30-81-5 all time against Whitewater and 3-7 in the last 10 matchups, last earning a win in 2019 with a 27-20 score.
