DE PERE, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's basketball closed out the St. Norbert College Nicolet National Bank Tip-Off Tournament with a 60-58 overtime win over the University of Chicago (Ill.) at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 8).

The Titans (2-0), ranked third in Division III by
D3hoops.com and fifth by the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association, outscored the Maroons, 14-9, in the first quarter and used a 16-12 fourth quarter, including a 9-0 run in the last 3:12 to send the game to overtime. In the extra period, Oshkosh outscored Chicago, 9-7, to earn the victory. With the win, the Titans are now 2-0 against the Maroons dating back to the programs' first meeting in 1987.

As a team, Oshkosh shot 32.8 percent (18-of-58) from the field, 27.8 percent (5-of-18) from three, and 58.6 percent (17-of-29) from the line; all lower totals than the Maroons' 38.9 percent, 47.1 percent, and 80.0 percent, respectively.

Chicago registered a game-high 11 second chance points while Oshkosh led with 26 points in the paint, 21 points off the Maroons' 25 turnovers (10 steals), 12 fast break points, and 24 bench points. The Maroons outrebounded the Titans, 50-29, and held slight edges in assists (13-12) and blocks (6-5).

Paige Seckar (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) scored a career-high 21 points on Saturday, going 8-of-19 from the field and 5-of-9 from the line and added seven rebounds, three blocks, two steals, and an assist.
Mahra Wieman (Sparta/Reedsburg Area) was Oshkosh's second leading scorer with 12 points, her most in a game since scoring 14 against Northland College in the 2023 Nicolet National Bank Tip-Off Tournament.

Avery Poole (Cottage Grove/Monona Grove) led the Titans with five assists to go with her nine points and
Sarah Hardwick (Green Bay/Notre Dame Academy) led with four steals.

Sammi Beyer (Appleton/Appleton East) scored the first points of the game with a three and Seckar responded to a Maroon layup with a jumper before the score was tied at 5-5. The Titans used a 9-2 run across two minutes in the middle of the first quarter to build up a 14-7 edge with 4:11 left, but the only points scored for the remainder were tallied when the Maroons converted a layup nearly three minutes later.

Neither team managed more than five straight points for the entirety of the second quarter and the score was tied at 16, 18, and 23 points before Wieman made her second of two successful free throws with one second on the clock in the second quarter to send the teams to the locker rooms with the score at 24-23 in the Titans' favor.

Chicago opened the third quarter with five points in a row and extended its edge to five points after Seckar tied the score at 29-29 with a layup. Following another pair of Wieman free throws, the Maroons tallied another 5-0 run to lead 39-31 with 56 seconds left in the quarter before Seckar scored four points in 25 seconds with two free throws and a layup, sending the game to the fourth quarter with Chicago up, 39-35.

The Titans continued to eat away at the deficit throughout the fourth period, scoring six points in a row before the fourth minute and holding the Maroons to two 5-point spurts. Oshkosh scored each point in the last 3:12 of regulation, going 7-0 while Chicago attempted just three shots. Across the run, Seckar scored three points and Wieman, Poole, and Beyer added two points apiece.

Seckar opened the extra five-minute period with a layup at 4:44 and
Bridget Froehlke (Wrightstown/Wrightstown) hit a free throw to create a 54-51 lead. The Maroons briefly claimed a one-point lead twice, however back-to-back layups for Froehlke and Seckar swapped the lead for the final time. Chicago brought the score within a possession with two seconds remaining and
Hope Barington (Sobieski/Notre Dame Academy) sealed the win with a last-second rebound when Seckar missed a free throw.

After the tournament concluded Seckar was named the Most Outstanding Player and Froehlke was selected for the All-Tournament team. Seckar averaged 13 points and 9.5 rebounds across Oshkosh's pair of wins while adding three assists, six blocks, and four steals while Froehlke averaged 11.5 points per contest, shooting 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from the field and 40.0 percent (6-of-15) from three with three free throws.

The Titans travel to Mequon on Wednesday (Nov. 12) to face Concordia University Wisconsin (0-1) for a 7 p.m. matchup. Oshkosh is 3-1 against the Falcons all-time, winning the programs' last matchup, 98-33, on November 23, 2004.
