Titans To Face Knights In NCAA Quarterfinal

OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's volleyball is headed Bloomington, Illinois for its third consecutive appearance in the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Division III Championship. The Titans will face Calvin University (Mich.) on Wednesday (Dec. 3).
 
The Titans (31-3), seeded second in the eight-team final site and ranked third in the American Volleyball Coaches Association's final poll of the regular season, will play the Knights (28-3), seeded seventh and ranked 19th at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Illinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center.
 
Oshkosh is 4-4 against Calvin since 1985 and 1-2 in NCAA Championship play. The Titans won a first round matchup in three sets over the Knights in Lisle, Illinois on November 14, 1991 and the Knights won in three sets in both the 2014 and 2022 tournaments.
 
Led by AVCA All-America First Team selection Samantha Perlberg (Chippewa Falls/Chippewa Falls), second team honoree Lauren Grier (Fond du Lac/Fond du Lac), and honorable mention Grace Juergens (Lockport, Ill./Lockport Community), Oshkosh has played in each of the last two national quarterfinal rounds and has reached the round eight times since transitioning to full-time NCAA affiliation in 1990.
 
The Titans won the WIAC regular season title for the third consecutive season by going 7-0 in league play and the 16th time in program history before reverse sweeping UW-Eau Claire in the conference tournament championship match on Saturday, November 15 at Kolf Sports Center to secure their first automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship since 2008.
 
After learning they would be hosting a regional tournament at Kolf Sports Center for the second time in three seasons, the Titans swept through their opponents in nine sets, winning their third straight regional trophy. They defeated Greenville University (Ill.) in the first round, Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) in the second round, and Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) in the third round. Oshkosh's first two 2025 regional opponents matched their 2023 home regional slate and its win over WashU was the Titans' first against the Bears in the national tournament in program history. WashU took the 1991 semifinal match, the 1994 national championship match, and the 2007 second round match.
 
On Wednesday, Colby College (Maine) (26-3) and Trinity University (Texas) (25-5) will kick off the quarterfinals at 11:30 a.m. before the Titans' 2 p.m. match. East Texas Baptist University (34-0) and Berry College (Ga.) (27-7) play at 4:30 p.m. and University of La Verne (Calif.) (25-2) and UW-Eau Claire (30-4) wrap up the first day of competition at 7 p.m.
 
The winner of the Oshkosh-Calvin match will play the winner of the Colby-Trinity match on Thursday (Dec. 4) at 5 p.m., followed by the winners of the East Texas Baptist-Berry and La Verne-Eau Claire matches at 7 p.m.
 
Following a day of rest, the winners of the semifinal matches will face of for the national title on Saturday (Dec. 6) at 4 p.m. All three rounds of the final site will be broadcast on ESPN+, which requires a paid subscription.
 
Oshkosh played three of the quarterfinalists four times in the regular season, defeating Colby, 3-2, on October 25 in Whitewater, losing to La Verne, 3-2, on September 12 in Oshkosh, beating Eau Claire, 3-1, on November 7 in Oshkosh, and winning the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) championship over Eau Claire in five sets.
