Titans Pick Up First Win Of Season Against North Park

Zach Taylor recorded four RBIs and two runs with a double and a two-run home run on Saturday

SAUGET, Ill.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team split its two games on Saturday (Mar. 1) at Webster University's (Mo.) Grizzlies Ballpark. The Titans picked up an 11-6 win over North Park University (Ill.), followed by a 6-10 loss to Webster.

In the Titans' win against North Park University, they scored 11 runs on nine hits. North Park scored six runs on 14 hits and two errors.

After falling behind 1-0, the Titans tied the game in the bottom of the second inning on an RBI groundout from Zach Taylor (Grad. • Long Grove, Ill.), which scored Carter Stebane (Sr. • Brillion). The Titans took the lead with a six-run fourth inning. Taylor extended the lead to 9-1 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth. North Park attempted to come back but the Titans scored two more runs to keep the Vikings at arm's reach. Brenden Max (Jr. • Libertyville, Ill.) had an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh and Braydon Skenandore (So. • De Pere) scored Jack McNamara (Jr. • La Grange, Ill.) on a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

Connor Walters (1-0) (Jr. • Libertyville, Ill.) picked up the win after pitching seven innings and giving up three earned runs while striking out a career high 10 batters. At the plate, Max went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and Jake Surane (Grad. • Lincolnshire, Ill.) went 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. The Titans stole eight bases during the game led by Surane with three. McNamara and Stebane stole two each.

In the second game against Webster, the Titans scored six runs on nine hits with two errors. Webster scored ten runs on 11 hits with one error. The Titans scored four runs to start the top of the first. Max scored on a wild pitch, Surane scored on a double from Nick Shiu (Sr. • Gurnee, Ill.), who scored on a double from Taylor, and Mason Kirchberg (Sr. • DeForest) scored on a sacrifice from Skenandore. The Titans fell behind shortly after a six-run bottom of the second from Webster. Despite a home run from Shiu in the top of the seventh, the Titans fell to Webster, 6-10.

At the plate, Shiu went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs. Kirchberg went 2-for-4, scoring a run. Stebane stole two more bases. Kael Johns (Fr. • Waukesha) pitched four innings, giving up one run on one hit, and striking out five.

The Titans (1-2) face off against the Vikings again on Saunday (Mar. 2) at 11 a.m.
