OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team played its first two games of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational on Saturday (Mar. 1), defeating Wisconsin Lutheran College 9-0 and Loras College 4-0.
The Titans' first game was against Wisconsin Lutheran, which they won with nine runs and ten hits. Wisconsin Lutheran scored no runs on two hits while committing two errors.
Abby Garceau (Sr. • Mishicot) scored Oshkosh's first run on a sacrifice fly by
Amanda Martineck (So. • Frankfort, Ill.) in the top of the second inning. The Titans scored five more runs in the top of the third on a single from
Haylie Wittman (Jr. • Kaukauna), a reached-on-error from Garceau, another single from
Sarah Hammerton (So. • Appleton), and a two-RBI reached-on-error from Martineck. The Titans added three runs to their total in the top of the seventh with an RBI single by
Mary Kate Quaid (Fr. • Aurora, Ill.), and a two-RBI single by
Cali Divito (Sr. • Inverness, Ill.).
Skyler Calmes (1-0) (Jr. • Kaukauna) pitched the final five innings to collect her first win of the year. Calmes only gave up two hits and struck out four. Garceau went 2-for-4 at the plate, scoring three runs and recording a double.
Sydney Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) recorded a career high three stolen bases during the contest.
In the second game against Loras, the Titans scored four runs on eight hits with no errors. Loras recorded five hits with two errors.
Sophie Wery (Sr. • Seymour) got the Titans on the board in the bottom of the first inning, scoring
Sydney Rau on a single.
Morgan Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) had an RBI double in the bottom of the third, scoring Divito. The Titans added two more runs in the top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly from
Morgan Miller (Jr. • Schaumberg, Ill.) and an RBI double from Garceau.
Sydney Nemetz (2-0) (Sr. • Marinette) collected her second win on the year, pitching five scoreless innings. Nemetz only gave up five hits and recorded two strikeouts. Garceau went 2-for-4 at the plate again with a double and an RBI. Divito went 2-for-3, scoring two runs, and Hammerton went 1-for-2 with a triple.
The Titans (4-0) return Sunday (Mar. 2) for their final two games of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational. The Titans face UW-Superior at 10 a.m. and Edgewood College at noon.
