Titan Pitching Staff Allows No Earned Runs In Sunday Wins

Brianna Bougie pitched five innings, striking out seven while allowing a single hit against Edgewood

OSHKOSH, Wis.- On Sunday (March 2), the UW-Oshkosh softball team won its final two games of the UW-Oshkosh Invitational to move to 6-0 on the year. The Titans defeated UW-Superior 10-1 and Edgewood College 9-0.

The Titans scored their ten runs against UW-Superior on 15 hits with no errors while Superior tallied one run on five hits.

The Titans got on the board early in the first inning on an RBI single from Sophie Wery (Sr. • Seymour). Cali Divito (Sr. • Inverness, Ill.) added two more in the second with a 2-RBI double. The Titans continued to score more runs, recording five more in the third inning. Mary Kate Quaid (Fr. • Aurora, Ill.) scored Haylie Wittman (Jr. • Kaukauna) on a RBI single, followed by two more RBIs from Divito on a single. Amanda Martineck (So. • Frankfort, Ill.) scored the fourth run of the inning on a wild pitch, and Sarah Hammerton (So. • Appleton) scored Abby Garceau (Sr. • Mishicot) on a single. The Titans added two runs in the fourth inning, starting with an RBI single by Morgan Miller (Jr. • Schaumberg, Ill.). Sydney Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) had the final RBI single, scoring Reese Koski (Sr. • Appleton).

Sydney Nemetz (Sr. • Marinette) picked up her third win of the year, pitching all five innings, allowing no earned runs, five hits, and striking out seven. Quaid went 3-for-3 with a double, Divito went 2-2 with four RBIs (tying a career high) and a double, and Rau went 3-for-4 with a double.

In the second game, the Titans scored their nine runs on ten hits with no errors. Edgewood scored no runs on two hits with one error. Oshkosh got started in its four-run third inning. Rau had an RBI single, Divito scored on a wild pitch, Garceau scored on a sacrifice fly from Hammerton, and Wery picked up an RBI single. The Titans scored their final five runs in the sixth inning, starting off on an RBI double from Wittman, which scored Olivia Ullman (Fr. • Denmark). Wittman then stole home on a double steal with Quaid. Divito picked up another RBI which scored Quaid, then scored on a single from Rau. Lizzie Slobodecki (Sr. • Carol Stream, Ill.) picked up the final RBI, which scored Olivia Baugnet (Fr. • De Pere).

Brianna Bougie (So. • Oshkosh) pitched five of the six innings, allowing no runs, only one hit, and striking out seven. Skyler Calmes (Jr. • Kaukauna) pitched the final inning, allowing only a hit and striking out two. At the plate, Wittman went 2-for-3 with a double and Rau went 2-for-4.

The Titans return on Saturday (Mar. 8) to face the Milwaukee School of Engineering at home in a doubleheader.
