Titans Score 23 Runs in Doubleheader Sweep Of Raiders

Sydney Rau (19) went 4-for-6 with three runs, five RBIs, a triple, and a home run on Saturday

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team put up 23 runs in its doubleheader against the Milwaukee School of Engineering Raiders at the UW-Oshkosh Rec Plex on Saturday (March 8). The Titans won game one, 6-0, and game two, 17-8.

In the first game of the day Sydney Nemetz (Sr. • Marinette) recorded her 50th career win and her fourth on the year. She is now tied for fifth-most saves in program history with Courtney Wautier, who pitched for the Titans between 2010 and 2013. She pitched all seven innings of the shutout, allowing two hits while striking out nine.

The Rau sisters had great showings at the plate across both games.  Sydney Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) was 4-for-6 with a triple and an inside the park homer.  She also scored three runs and drove in five. Morgan Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) was 4-for-7 at the dish with a triple, three runs scored, four RBIs, and a triple.

The Titans (8-0) recorded 12 hits to the Raiders' (0-2) two in game one. They opened the scoring in the third inning after Sydney Rau singled and drove in a run.

The Titans then added five runs in the fifth as Sydney Rau tripled to drive in a run. Morgan Rau later drove her in with a single. Sarah Hammerton (So. • Appleton) sent in a run with a single and Abby Garceau (Sr. • Mishicot) sent the Titan's final two runs of game one home with a single.

The Raiders and Titans both tallied nine hits, with MSOE having two errors to Oshkosh's one in the second game.

The Raiders struck first in game two, scoring a run in the first inning on an RBI single.

In the bottom half of the second inning, Hammerton scored on a fielder's choice to tie the game up at 1-1. MSOE then walked in a run giving the Titans the lead 2-1 followed by a sacrifice fly by Olivia Ullman (Fr. • Denmark) that scored Haylie Wittman (Jr. • Kaukauna). With runners on second and third, Sydney Rau cleared the bases with a three-run inside the park homer run to right center.  Morgan Rau scored on a fielder's choice in the next at-bat and Sophie Wery (Sr. • Seymour) scored next on of a wild pitch. Hammerton recorded her second run of the inning when Wittman grounded out to second. Garceau rounded out the 10-run second inning with a run on Amanda Martineck's (Frankfort, Ill.) single to left field.

The Raiders responded with two runs of their own in the top half of the third inning, putting the score at 10-3. Morgan Rau scored again when Wery doubled down the left field line in the bottom of the third.

After a five-run top half of the fourth inning, UW-Oshkosh tacked on six additional runs. Wittman scored on a Cali Divito (Sr. • Inverness, Ill.) single. Martineck scored after an Ullman double. Morgan Rau tripled, driving in Sydney Rau, Ullman, and Divito before scoring on an MSOE error. After the Raiders failed to put up any runs in the top of the fifth, the run rule was in effect and the Titans came away with the 17-8 win.

The Titans are scheduled to play Ramapo College (N.J.) in Clermont, Fla. for their first game of THE Spring Games. They are slated to play at 9 a.m. ET on Friday, March 21.
