Titans Split First Day of THE Spring Games

Grace Nardi pitched five innings against Coe on Saturday, striking out six batters while allowing one hit

CLERMONT, Fla.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team split its first two games of THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida on Friday (March 22). Oshkosh was handed its first loss of the season by Ramapo College (N.J.), which won 2-1. The Titans then bounced back in the second game defeating Coe College (Iowa), 2-1.

In the first contest, the Titans (9-1) tallied eight hits to Ramapo's (9-1) five. Both teams committed an error. In the second game, Oshkosh had six hits to the Kohawks' two. Oshkosh did not commit an error in this game and Coe committed two.

The Rau sisters both had solid days at the plate as Sydney Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) was 4-for-6 across both games and scored a run. Morgan Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) went 3-for-7 with a trio of doubles, drove in one run and stole a base. Amanda Martineck (So. • Frankfurt, Ill.) went 3-for-5 at the dish with a run.

On the mound, Sydney Nemetz (Sr. • Marinette) pitched all six innings of the first contest and gave up five hits and a run while striking out four batters. She was assigned her first loss of the season against the Roadrunners.

Ramapo struck in the bottom of the first inning by scoring two runs. Oshkosh answered in the top of the third with a run of its own when Martineck scored on an error. The rest of the game was a stalemate, and Ramapo handed the Titans their first loss of the year.

In game two, Grace Nardi (Fr. • Marquette, Mich.) started on the bump for the Titans, tossing five innings and striking out six batters, both early season highs. She also earned the win, moving her record to 2-0 on the year. Brianna Bougie (So. • Oshkosh) finished the last two innings for the Titans. She struck out one and gave up one hit while recording her second save of the season.

Morgan Rau started the scoring against Ramapo in the bottom of the first innings as she drove Sydney home with a double. Abby Garceau (Sr. • Mishicot) then drove in Morgan with a single to go up 2-0. Coe scored on a double steal in the top of the fifth but the Titans emerged victorious by a score of 2-1.

Oshkosh is slated for another doubleheader in Clermont on Saturday (March 22) for day two of THE Spring Games. The Titans will face Amherst College (Mass.) (7-2) at 10:15 a.m. eastern time and Knox College (Ill.) (0-13) at 12:15 p.m. eastern.
