Titans Tally 27 Hits In Twinbill Sweep

Abby Garceau recorded a double, four RBIs, and a run on 3-for-5 against Amherst

CLERMONT, Fla.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team kicked off day two of the THE Spring Games on Saturday (March 22) with an 8-5 win over Amherst College (Mass.) and followed it up with a 7-0 victory over Knox College (Ill.).
 
In the Titans' (11-0) first game, they tallied 12 hits to the Mammoths' (8-4) five. In game two of the day Oshkosh knocked 15 hits to the Prairie Fire's (0-16) two.
 
Abby Garceau (Sr. • Mishicot) went 3-for-5 at the plate against Amherst with a double, four RBIs, and a run. Morgan Miller (Jr. • Schaumburg, Ill.) was also solid in the first game as she hit 2-for-3 with a double and two runs.
 
Sydney Nemetz (Sr. • Marinette) started on the bump in game one. She threw an inning before being relieved by Brianna Bougie (So. • Oshkosh).  In relief, Bougie pitched a season high six scoreless innings and struck out seven batters which ties a career best. She earned the win, moving her to 3-0 on the season.
 
The scoring kicked off by Amherst in the first inning as the Mammoths crossed the plate twice before adding three runs to their lead in the second.
 
Garceau drove in Oshkosh's first two runs on a double in the third inning. Morgan Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) then hit a sacrifice fly to drive in another run later in the inning.
 
Haylie Wittman (Jr. • Kaukauna) singled to send Sarah Hammerton (So. • Appleton) home in the fourth inning. The Titans took the lead when Garceau singled, scoring Miller and Wittman. Sydney Rau (Fifth • Downers Grove, Ill.) and Morgan Rau recorded back-to-back RBIs on an RBI groundout and a single to make the score 8-5.
 
Neither team found home in the last three innings and Bougie put the Mammoths down in order in each.
 
Against the Prairie Fire, Morgan Rau went 2-for-3 with a double and triple while driving in a run. Sophie Wery (Sr. • Seymour) was also 2-for-3 at the dish with a triple and a pair of runs scored.
 
The game two starter was Miller who threw three innings and struck out two. In relief for Miller, Skyler Calmes (Jr. • Kaukuana) pitched the next two innings. Grace Nardi (Fr. • Marquette, Mich.) came in for the final two innings and struck out four batters.
 
Wittman sent the first run of the second game home on a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
 
In the third Morgan Rau hit a double to drive in her sister, Sydney for a 2-0 edge.
 
In a five-run fifth inning, the Titans scored all of their runs on singles. Olivia Ullman (Fr. • Denmark) recorded one RBI, Kendra Baumeister (Jr. • Burlington) had two, Josie Rammer (So. • Janesville) had one, and Olivia Baugnet (Fr. • De Pere) had the fifth.
 
Nardi held Knox hitless in her stint on the mound to earn her third win on the campaign.
 
Oshkosh is back in action on Monday (March 24) for its third day of THE Spring Games in Clermont, Florida at 9 a.m. eastern to face Luther College (Iowa) (9-5) and at 12:30 p.m. eastern to face Manchester University (Ind.) (2-2).
