AUBURNDALE, Fla.- The UW-Oshkosh baseball team defeated the University of Dubuque (Iowa) 9-2 on Friday (March 7) to move to 2-0 in the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
The Titans (4-2) tallied 12 hits to the Spartans' (3-4) six. Oshkosh racked up four triples and a double to go along with three stolen bags. Titan pitchers struck out nine batters and allowed just six hits.
Right fielder
Nick Shiu (Sr. • Gurnee, Ill.) had a solid day as he went 2-for-4, swiped a base, and scored two runs. Shortstop
Carter Stebane (Sr. • Brillion) went 2-for-5 at the dish with a triple and three RBIs. Center fielder
Jake Surane (Grad. • Lincolnshire, Ill.) went 3-for-5 with a triple, a pair of runs, and an RBI.
The Titans' starting pitcher,
Connor Walters (Jr. • Libertyville, Ill.) tossed eight innings, walked two batters, and gave up five hits with eight strikeouts. Walters earned the win, moving him to 2-0 on the season.
Dubuque opened the scoring in the first inning on a sacrifice fly.
Oshkosh responded in the third as
Brenden Max (Jr. • Libertyville, Ill.) doubled, sending two runs home.
Mason Kirchberg (Sr. • DeForest) tripled to bring home another run. Stebane singled to score the Titans' final run of the third inning, putting them up, 4-1.
Oshkosh added to their lead in the fourth when Surane tripled to score a run.
The Titans added four more runs in the seventh and eighth innings, while Dubuque was only able to muster one more in the ninth.
The Titans are slated to play their third game of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational tomorrow at 1:30 pm ET against Saint Mary's University (Minn.)
