Top Ranked Warhawks Take Two From Titans

Jake Surane went 4-for-9 with a double, a triple, an RBI, two runs, and a stolen base at Tiedemann Field on Wednesday

OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh baseball dropped both games of its doubleheader on Wednesday (April 23) against top-ranked UW-Whitewater. The Warhawks won game one, 11-5, and game two, 10-7.

After a 30-minute rain delay, the doubleheader began at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. With the wins, Whitewater (28-2, 18-2 WIAC) went up 3-1 in the season series over the Titans (21-11, 12-8 WIAC). Oshkosh won its only game over the Warhawks this season in Whitewater on April 10 by a score of 6-3.

Both teams eclipsed double-digit hits in game one as the Titans tallied 13 and the Warhawks had 15. Logan Schill (So. • Pewaukee) led the way for Oshkosh in the first contest as he was 3-for-5 with a double and triple, along with an RBI and two runs. Jake Surane (Grad. • Lincolnshire, Ill.) was also solid in game one, going 3-for-5 with a triple, an RBI, and a run.

Hoyt Keller (Jr. • Wautoma) started on the hill for the Titans this season and tossed 4.2 innings with a strikeout. He allowed four runs on eight hits, and two walks. He was assigned the loss and moved to an 0-1 record. Cooper Kamlay (Fr. • Franklin) came in for relief and pitched the next 1.2 innings while striking out three and giving up two hits, two walks, and hit a batter for four runs. Michael Hughes (Jr. • Lockport, Ill.) and Aaron Huibregtse (Sr. • Oostburg) each tossed 1.1 innings and struck out one batter each. Huibregtse held the Warhawks scoreless on two hits while Hughes allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and two hit batters.

The Warhawks pushed across two runs in the top of the first inning on a double and a single before and the Titans answered in the bottom half of the inning when Surane drove in Schill with a triple to right field.

Whitewater extended its lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly to put the Warhawks ahead, 3-1.

With one out in the third, Schill tripled to center field with one out on the board and pulled the Titans within a run a batter later on Nick Shiu's (Sr. • Gurnee, Ill.) groundout.

Keller sat the Warhawks down in order in the top of the fourth inning but was pulled with two outs in the fifth after allowing Whitewater to take a 4-2 edge.

Kamlay fanned the first two batters of the sixth inning and induced a foul out to Zach Taylor (Grad. • Long Grove, Ill.) at first base, holding the score steady. The Warhawks tallied four runs in the seventh inning on a two-RBI single and a two-RBI double.

Schill drove Owen Housinger (Jr. • Hawthorn Woods, Ill.) home with a double in the seventh to bring the score to 8-3.
