Titans Win WIAC Tournament Title; Wery Becomes League’s All-Time RBI Leader

Sophie Wery's 171st career RBI put her atop the WIAC all-time leaderboard

WHITEWATER, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh softball beat UW-Stevens Point, 3-0, in its first game of the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) on Saturday (May 10) to advance to the championship game against UW-Platteville, winning 9-2.

The No. 18 nationally ranked Titans (36-6) moved to a 56-64 record in the WIAC Tournament with the pair of wins and won the third tournament title in program history. Oshkosh previously claimed the 2008 and 2021 crowns.

With the championship, the Titans earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship. They will find out where they will start their national tournament trip during the selection show on Monday (May 12) at 10 a.m. The selection show will be broadcast live on NCAA.com.

Sixth-seeded UW-Stevens Point (28-12) got to day two of the tournament with a 9-4 win over third-seeded UW-Eau Claire on Friday (May 9).

Brianna Bougie (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) threw the complete game shutout against the Pointers, allowing just four hits, four walks, and one hit batter while striking out one. She held Stevens Point to just two runners that reached second base.

Haylie Wittman (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) went 2-for-3 with a run in Oshkosh's first game of the day while Cali Divito (Inverness, Ill./Fremd) hit 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.

Amanda Martineck (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) led off the second inning with a single through the right side of the infield and Lizzie Slobodecki (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) came on to pinch run for her. A Wittman single moved Slobodecki to second before Divito doubled to score both runners and put Oshkosh up, 2-0.

The Titans added their third run in the third inning when Morgan Rau (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) hit a one out solo home run.

Oshkosh put runners on second and third base in the fifth inning when Divito drew a leadoff walk, Abby Garceau (Mishicot/Mishicot) reached on a bunt, and Sydney Rau (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) laid down a sacrifice bunt. Morgan Rau (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) recorded the second out before the bases were loaded when Olivia Ullman (Denmark/Denmark) was intentionally walk. The first two Titans to bat in the sixth inning got out before Martineck walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Wery passed Suzanne Gersich, who played for UW-Whitewater from 2006 to 2009, as the all-time conference leader in RBIs at 171 with a double that scored Martineck for Oshkosh's ninth run.
