Titans Celebrate Senior Day During Sweep Of Blugolds

OSHKOSH, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh softball team finished the regular season on an eight-game winning streak with wins of 5-1 and 3-0 over UW-Eau Claire at the UW-Oshkosh Softball Park on Sunday (May 4).

The 18th nationally ranked Titans (34-6, 10-4 WIAC) have now won each of the last three series against the Blugolds (27-13, 7-7 WIAC) dating back to the 2023 season. Win the second win, they reached double-digit WIAC wins for the fifth straight season and the ninth time under 12-year head coach Scott Beyer.

Oshkosh collected 18 hits in the doubleheader and submitted a clean sheet in the field against Eau Claire's six hits and two errors.

Sydney Nemetz (Marinette/Marinette) started in the circle for the Titans in the opener. She threw two innings on scoreless work, never facing more than four batters in an inning and allowing just one hit. Brianna Bougie (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) came in the final five innings and moved to 4-1 on the year with seven strikeouts against a run on four hits, a walk, and a hit batter. She struck out two batters in both the third and fourth innings and put the Blugolds down in order in the fourth and seventh.

Abby Garceau (Mishicot/Mishicot) and Haylie Wittman (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) both went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs in game one. Garceau was also one of three Titans to swipe a bag.

UW-Oshkosh got on the board in the second inning. Amanda Martineck (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East) singled to right center, advanced to second on a Sarah Hammerton (Appleton/Appleton West) walk, to third when Sophie Wery (Seymour/Seymour Community) singled up the middle, and reached home with Hammerton on Wittman's single to right field. Wery tallied the third run two batters later when Garceau singled to left field.

UW-Eau Claire scored its only run of the day in the fifth inning on an RBI single to right field.

The Titans continued its scoring in the sixth inning when Garceau sent Wittman home with a single up the middle before crossing the plate on Olivia Ullman's (Denmark/Denmark) center field single.

UW-Oshkosh celebrated Reese Koski (Appleton/Appleton North), Lizzie Slobodecki (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North), Cali Divito (Inverness, Ill./Fremd), Garceau, Nemetz, Wery, Morgan Rau (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South), and Sydney Rau (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) between games as the 2025 softball senior class.

Grace Nardi (Marquette, Mich./Negaunee) improved to an unblemished 10-0 record in her first complete game in the regular season finale. She fanned six batters while allowing no runs on a hit and two walks. She retired 11 consecutive batters between the first and fourth innings.

Wery hit a perfect 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Ullman recorded Oshkosh's third RBI.

In the second inning, the Titans broke the 0-0 tie with two RBIs on her double down the left field line. Ullman made the score 3-0 with a bases loaded walk in the fourth inning, scoring Maddie Crick (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) who was pinch running for Wery.

The Blugolds reached second base just once in the game, when a single and a walk put runners on first and second before flying and striking out to end the inning. They attempted to steal second in the fifth inning, but Wery's dart to Morgan Rau (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove South) at shortstop kept them from scoring position.

The Titans secured the No. 2 seed in the WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) at top-seeded UW-Whitewater (35-5, 12-2 WIAC) with the first of Sunday's wins. With the new single-elimination format for the tournament, they will not play in Thursday's (May 9) first games but will face the winner of the sixth-seeded UW-Stevens Point (27-11, 6-8 WIAC) and third-seeded UW-Eau Claire game at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (May 10). The winners of Saturday's first two games face in the tournament championship at 4 p.m. and the champion earns the WIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.
