Surane Named ABCA/Rawlings Division III Gold Glove Centerfielder

Jake Surane secured the Titans' second Gold Glove with a .988 fielding percentage across 51 games this season

GREENSBORO, N.C.- For the second time in the storied history of UW-Oshkosh baseball, a Titan collected a prestigious Gold Glove from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings on Wednesday (June 18).

Jake Surane (Lincolnshire, Ill./Stevenson) started all 51 games in center field for the Titans this season, helping Oshkosh to a 35-16 overall record including a 20-8 mark against WIAC opponents. The five-year starter led the Titans to their 26th NCAA Division III Championship appearance since joining Division III in 1979. He recorded his first career cycle against the University of Chicago (Ill.) in the first game of the Saint Peter, Minnesota Regional on May 16, going 4-for-5 at the plate with a walk, four runs, and nine RBIs in the 34-8 win. UW-Oshkosh secured its 18th regional title two days later with a 10-2 victory over the Maroons in the championship game.

Surane posted a .988 fielding percentage this season, recording 169 putouts and two assists on 173 total chances with just two errors.

Brad Demmin was named UW-Oshkosh's first Gold Glove winner at first base following the 2008 season.

The ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Awards are selected by ABCA coaches committees at each level: NCAA Div. I, II & III, NAIA, NJCAA Div. I, II & III, Pacific Association Division, and High School.

The ABCA/Rawlings Award Program is one of the most comprehensive in all of sports, honoring All-America and Gold Glove teams in nine divisions of amateur baseball as well as All-Region teams in five divisions.

The ABCA/Rawlings All-America teams date back to 1949 starting with one collegiate All-America team. Other divisions subsequently added until the current total of nine was reached. The first ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were recognized in 2007, making this the 18th year the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Awards have been presented in the collegiate and high school ranks (no awards were presented in 2020 due to COVID-19).
