RIPON, Wis.- The UW-Oshkosh women's track and field team returned this Friday (Jan. 23) for the Ripon College Red Hawk Opener. The Titans won the meet with a score of 148, defeating second-place Carthage College by 31.5 points.
The Titans came out strong in the field with
Emerson Clark (Ladysmith/Ladysmith) winning the long jump by clearing 5.08 meters. She also won the pole vault with a vault of 3.36 meters.
Alana Noggle (De Pere/West De Pere) won the weight throw with a cast of 15.41 meters and
Paige Smolinski (Waukesha/Waukesha North) snagged a bronze medal in the high jump, jumping 1.45 meters.
The Titans captured their first sweep on the track in the 400-meter dash.
Maddy LaVoi (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial) led the way, winning the event with a time of 59.59 seconds, slightly ahead of
Addie Baker (Delavan/Elkhorn Area) who ran a 59.75.
Lydia Hofacker (Shiocton/Shiocton) completed the sweep, running 1:02.30 for third place.
Maya Van Schyndel (Little Chute/Little Chute) grabbed a silver medal in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.58 seconds.
Nyla Brown (Milwaukee/Cudahy) won the 60-meter dash, completing the event in 8.13 seconds.
Amelia Lehman (Oshkosh/Valley Christian) set a personal record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.99, claiming first place.
Baker and LaVoi returned in the 200-meter dash and once again claimed the top two spots. Baker finished first with a time of 26.49 seconds and LaVoi was runner-up with a 26.97.
Piper Johnson (Poynette/Poynette) and
Ella Galaszewski (West Allis/Nathan Hale) placed on the podium in the 3,000-meter run. Johnson finished second with a time of 11:11.56 and Galaszewski snagged third by less than a second, running a 11:29.50.
The Titans split up next week, with some of the team traveling to the UW-Stout Warren Bowlus Open and the other part traveling to the UW-Whitewater Squid Converse on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 30-31).
