Titans Tie Pioneers

Addie Wreath scored the Titans' goal in the 11th minute and totaled a game-high seven shots with five on goal

OSHKOSH, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's soccer picked up a point in the WIAC standings with a 1-1 tie against UW-Platteville at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Saturday (Oct. 17) afternoon.

The Titans (6-4-4, 1-1-2 WIAC) sit fourth in the conference with five points following Saturday's full slate of league matches with three conference matchups remaining to push for a chance to host their first WIAC Tournament (presented by Culver's) contest since 2023.

Oshkosh outshot the Pioneers, 25-11, with 11 shots on goals to the visitors' six while holding a 7-2 edge in corner kicks and not allowing one to Platteville until the 65th minute.

Addie Wreath (Appleton/Appleton East) was the Titans' sparkplug, shooting seven times with five going on goal, and scoring their goal in the 11th minute.

Maddie Daigle (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho/Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy) and Ella Duckmann (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) both shot four times with one attempt on goal while Jaden LeRoy (Evansville/Evansville) shot three times (once on goal).

Taylin Heiman (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West), Laney Wiebel (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) and Shannon Walsh (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) and all put their only shots of the contest between the posts.

Larissa Likes (Kaukauna/Kaukauna), Oshkosh's starting goalkeeper, allowed a goal for the first time in over 212 minutes on a penalty kick, the only shot she faced. Jamaya Mariner (Green Bay/Green Bay East) then came in for the second half and tied her career high with five saves.

Wreath attempted the first shot of the match in the seventh minute, and Daigle added three more (one on goal) before LeRoy passed to Wreath 15 yards out from the net for a goal off the left post. The goal was her third of the season and second in as many games.

While the Titans owned possession for over half of the 90-minute contest, the Pioneers shot off-target in the 11th and 35th minutes of the first half surrounding a successful penalty kick in the 23rd minute that tied the game at 1-1.

Oshkosh nearly went up right before the half when Kylie Morrey (Spring Green/River Valley) shot from the left side of the goal, however it went just left of the post for a goal kick.

While neither team scored in the second half, the Titans recorded a pair of corner kicks before the 50th minute and put shots on goal off the second corner just three seconds apart. Wreath attempted a header that was knocked back into play by Pioneer goalkeeper Marguerite Mueller and LeRoy tried to score off the deflection, but Mueller saved the go-ahead score again.

Oshkosh put five more tries on goal down the stretch and Duckmann and Marie Van Zeeland (Kimberly/Kimberly) both tried to score in the final four minutes with no luck.

The tie was the third all time between the Titans and Pioneers. Both the previous ties were also played to a 1-1 score.

The Titans will host UW-Whitewater (11-3-2, 2-1-1 WIAC) at J. J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium on Wednesday (Oct. 21) at 7 p.m. for their final regular-season home match of the season.

Since their first season in 1993, the Titans are 17-20-4 against the Warhawks. They will look for their first win since a 4-1 decision in Whitewater on Oct. 20, 2021.
