MENOMONIE, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's tennis picked up its first conference win of the season Saturday (Oct. 3), defeating UW-Stout Polytechnic 4-3 at Menomonie High School.
The win is the Titans' fifth-straight against the Blue Devils dating back to the 2022-23 season.
In doubles action, Olivia Pethan (Oshkosh/Fox Valley Lutheran) and Brianna Owens (Appleton/Kimberly) defeated Prajna Hosamane and Gretchen Murphy, 6-1, in the top flight. No. 3 doubles saw Jameson Gregory (Delavan/Big Foot) and Peyton Peterson (Sheboygan Falls/Sheboygan Falls) secure a 6-4 victory against Lindsay Levzinger and Braenna Stampf. Kayla Gibbs (Muskego/Muskego) and Sarah Schaeffer (Rock Springs/Reedsburg) were shutout, 6-0, in the second flight by Molly Garber and Joelle Smith.
Both the Titans and Blue Devils got three wins in singles competition. Pethan won the top flight, 6-2, 6-0, over Garber, while Owens secured the 6-2, 6-0 victory against Murphy in the second flight. Taylor Longdin (Slinger/Slinger) defeated Stampf, 6-3, 7-5, in No. 6 singles action.
Gibbs suffered a 6-3, 6-1 loss against Hosamane in No. 3 singles, while Schaeffer dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Smith on the fourth flight. No. 5 singles saw Sophie Gish (West Bend/West Bend West) fall to Levzinger by a 6-4, 6-4, final score.
Oshkosh continues WIAC play on Friday (Oct. 9) at 4 p.m. when the Titans travel to UW-Stevens Point to face the Pointers. In the last ten meetings between the two programs, Oshkosh holds a 6-4 advantage and has a 38-20 overall record against Stevens Point.
