Titans Place Second In Red Hawk Invitational

Lehna Mitchell won the 3,000-meter run in 10:20.47

RIPON, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's track & field competed at the Ripon College Red Hawk Invitational on Saturday (Feb. 7), placing second with 135 points. The Titans also sent athletes to compete in the UW-La Crosse Mark Guthrie Legacy Invitational.
 
In Ripon, Amara Smalls (Peshtigo/Marinette) earned the first medal on the track for the Titans. She placed third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.16.
 
Maya Van Schyndel (Little Chute/Little Chute) grabbed Oshkosh's first silver medal of the meet by placing second in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.42 seconds.
 
Mia Riley (Janesville/Janesville Parker) snagged third place in the 60-meter dash by two one-hundredths of the second, completing the event in 8.17 seconds.
 
Megan Hoffman (Clayton/Clayton) placed second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.12.
 
Lehna Mitchell (Oshkosh/Oshkosh North) and Allison VanDerWegen (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) earned the top two spots in the 3,000-meter run. Mitchell dominated the event, running a 10:20.47, and VanDerWegen ran a 10:56.59.
 
In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Athena Soto (Whitewater/Whitewater), Adriana Garcia (Green Bay/Green Bay East), Hoffman and Anabel Mitchell (Oshkosh/Oshkosh North) placed third at 4:21.39.
 
Brooklyn Manz (Kiel/Kiel) placed third in the shot put with a throw of 12.94 meters.
 
Bri Meyer (Beaver Dam/Beaver Dam) was the Titans' second field medalist, placing second in the pole vault with a vault of 3.35 meters.
 
Over in La Crosse, Maddy LaVoi (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny Centennial) claimed Oshkosh's top individual finish in the 400-meter dash with a seventh-place time of 59.20 seconds.
 
The 4x400-meter relay squad of Addie Baker (Delavan/Elkhorn Area), Jenna Pierre (West Bend/West Bend West), Lydia Hofacker (Shiocton/Shiocton) and LaVoi placed sixth in 3:57.84.
 
The Titans return next week for the highly competitive Midwest Elite Invitational, hosted by UW-Whitewater. Some of the best athletes from the Midwest Region will compete in the 5,000-meter run on Friday night (Feb. 13) and the rest of the meet will take place on Saturday (Feb. 14).
