Titans Lose Series Finale To Illinois Wesleyan

Aaron Davis recorded both of Oshkosh's RBI in the first inning

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.- Aaron Davis (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) put UW-Oshkosh baseball up 2-0 in the top of the first inning with a two-RBI single, but Illinois Wesleyan University scored the remainder of the game's runs on its way to a 7-2 win at Horenberger Field on Sunday (March 22).

Davis collected his only hit of the day in the first inning while Braydon Skenandore (De Pere/West De Pere) and Jack McNamara (La Grange, Ill./Lyons) both had two hits and a run for the remainder of Oshkosh's five hits and both runs scored.

Skenandore stole one base while Logan Schill (Pewaukee/Pewaukee), who walked once and reached on a fielder's choice, swiped two bases.

Baris Brua (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) (0-1) started on the mound for Oshkosh and pitched 5.2 innings, accounting for four of the Titans' seven strikeouts while allowing three runs on six hits and three walks.

Cooper Kamlay (Franklin/Franklin) came in during the sixth inning and finished out the seventh. He allowed four hits and a walk for three runs while striking out one batter.

Benje Hencke (De Pere/West De Pere) finished the game on the hill for Oshkosh, striking out two Illinois Wesleyan batters, but allowing a run on two hits.

UW-Oshkosh (4-6) is receiving votes in the most recent American Baseball Coaches Association poll.

Skenandore hit a one-out single in the top of the first inning and stole second base before McNamara and Schill loaded the bases with consecutive walks. Davis then sent the first pitch he saw to left field, scoring both Skenandore and McNamara while Schill moved to second base. Illinois Wesleyan's Marshall Ingold escaped the inning without surrendering any more runs by inducing a Brenden Max (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) groundout that stranded both runners.

Illinois Wesleyan (3-12) scored one run in the second, third, sixth and ninth innings and tallied three runs in the seventh frame on a two-RBI single and another RBI single.

Trevor Morris (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) reached third base in the second inning after reaching on an error and advancing two bases when Skenandore singled to right field but was stranded as the right fielder put out Danny Connelly (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein).

Schill reached on a fielder's choice in the third frame and stole back-to-back bases during Davis' at-bat before being stranded 90 feet from home.

Oshkosh did not reach further than first base for the remainder of the game.

Illinois Wesleyan took the season series, 2-1. Oshkosh won, 11-8, on Friday (March 20) before the hosts took an 8-7, 10-inning victory on Saturday (March 21).

Since the teams' first meeting in 1993, Oshkosh is 12-3 against Illinois Wesleyan.

The Titans will play North Park University (Ill.) (11-6) in a rescheduled game in Chicago on Tuesday (March 24) at 3 p.m.
