RIPON, Wis.- Another road trip was on the docket for UW-Oshkosh women's tennis on Saturday (Sept. 12), as the Titans traveled to the Willmore Center and picked up a 6-1 victory over Ripon College.
Oshkosh (2-1-1, 0-1 WIAC) extends their winning streak over the Red Hawks to 20 matches, having not dropped a match since 2002.
Kayla Gibbs (Muskego/Muskego) and Sarah Schaeffer (Rock Springs/Reedsburg) got the first match win for the Titans in the second doubles flight, with a 6-1 score over Bella Engstrom and Emily Bittenger. No. 3 doubles saw Jameson Gregory (Delavan/Big Foot) and Peyton Peterson (Sheboygan Falls/Sheboygan Falls) secure the doubles point for Oshkosh in a 6-0 shutout of Izzy DeMuse and Ella Clark.
The lone loss in doubles competition came in the top flight, with Olivia Pethan (Oshkosh/Fox Valley Lutheran) and Brianna Owens (Appleton/Kimberly) falling, 6-1, to Josie Rondestvedt and Jessi Griepantrog.
Owens bounced back in singles action with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Griepantrog in the second flight, while Schaeffer took a 6-1, 6-1 victory against Engstrom in the No. 3 match. Taylor Longdin (Slinger/Slinger) held off Bittenger to secure the 6-0, 6-2 decision in the fourth flight as Peterson defeated Juliet Barstow, 6-0, 6-3, in No. 5 singles.
In her first match representing the Titans, Anna Willis (Fond du Lac/St. Mary's Springs Academy) took home the win, defeating Clark 6-1, 6-4, in the sixth flight.
No. 1 singles shaped up to be a back-and-forth contest between Gibbs and Rondestvedt. After taking set one 6-4, Gibbs suffered a setback, dropping a 6-3 decision in the second set. In the winner-take-all set three, Gibbs came up short for the Titans, losing both the set and match with an 11-9 score.
The Titans are back at the Kolf Sports Center Outdoor Tennis Courts on Tuesday (Sept. 15) at 4 p.m. when they host UW-Whitewater in WIAC conference play. Oshkosh looks to snap a 23-match losing streak against the Warhawks dating back to 2011.
