Titans And Pioneers Tie

Shannon Walsh notched her first assist of the season on Tuesday

WAUKESHA, Wis.- UW-Oshkosh women's soccer tied Carroll University, 1-1, at Schneider Stadium on Waukesha on Tuesday (Sept. 29) night in its penultimate nonconference contest of the season.

The Pioneers (2-2-6, 1-0-0 CCIW) scored the first goal in the 11th minute and held the lead until Jaden LeRoy (Evansville/Evansville) scored the tying goal early in the second half.

The Titans (4-3-2) totaled five shots on goal, led by LeRoy's two. Ariana Gonzalez (Appleton/Appleton North), Addie Wreath (Appleton/Appleton East) and Nadia Epshteyn (Cedarburg/Cedarburg) added one each.

Oshkosh's defense held its opponent to less than five shots on goal for the sixth time this season, allowing Carroll to put up just three attempts on goal. Defenders Addyson Edwards (Appleton/Appleton West) and Ryley Meenk (Waukesha/Waukesha South) both played all 90 minutes.

The Titans also held a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Larissa Likes (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) allowed a goal for the first time in seven matches while saving the Pioneers' only two attempts on goal, both in the first half. Jamaya Mariner (Green Bay/Green Bay East) again came in for the second half and posted a clean sheet with no shots faced.

Carroll made the first shot late in the 10th minute and Likes saved the attempt before a second attempt got past her to make the score 1-0. Gonzalez tried to even up the score in the 12th minute, however the Pioneer keeper stopped the ball short.

The remainder of the first half was relatively quiet with just one another shot on goal, a Carroll attempt in the 27th minute.

The Pioneers cleared the ball from the box on a Wreath cross over the middle; however Shannon Walsh (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) kept the ball from going out of bounds, passing to an open LeRoy directly in front of the goal. LeRoy grounded the ball and kicked it into the bottom left corner of the goal for her sixth score of the season.

While Mariner saw little action on Oshkosh's half of the field in the second half, the Titan offense remained busy with shots by Epshteyn, LeRoy and Wreath all going on goal in the 63rd, 67th, and 68th minutes, respectively.

The Titan open WIAC play at home on Saturday (Oct. 3), hosting UW-Eau Claire (5-2-1) at 7 p.m. The Blugolds hold a 28-14-4 advantage in the all-time series, including wins in each of the last five matchups.
